I got my parakeet 18 days ago and he's pretty comfortable with his cage, but today he's been squawking constantly and "flying" while still on his perch (his wings are clipped) and when I try to take him out he jumps around and won't let me take him out. Right now i have his cage covered because I heard it soothe him, but does the tropical storm affect him at all? (he IS inside) We are in an area affected by Fay but at the moment the weather is calm. No wind, just a steady drizzle.

  1. i have parakeets of my own (4 to be exact)

the storm may affect the behavior of the parakeet such as panicking. this is do to the 6th sense and feels threatened byt he storm. Just comfort him and soothe him. However, the reason why he may not be coming out is because he is not used to your hand and your interaction. if u want help with parakeet care i recommend this site.

  2. Some animals can tell the pressure in the air, my bird is constantly doing that, I would actually uncover your bird and talk to it or put on some music, my bird loves that and it turns her annoying squawking into chirps.

  3. It's possible; I seirously think animals have some kind of prewarning insight that humans lack.

  4. unless he is outside

  5. he might be telling u somthing

  6. He is acting like that because he isn't use to being outside. Also, a tip is grab him in gloves and let go. He will climb on your finger, therefor, finger training him.

  7. sounds like he is sensative to sound

just keep the blanket over the cage, and try to be pretty quiet until he calms down

  8. birds are good with weather

  9. some people say that animals can sense weather b4 it comes

  10. Lots of people say that animals are more in tune with nature. They can feel when something like a storm of other type of natural disaster is going to happen. I know my parents would say if all the cows in the field were lying down it meant it was gonna rain soon... I live in north Florida and we had several different animals throughout my life that would run off and hide when a big storm was headed our way, we wouldn't be able to find them until it was gone. But regular rain showers, even if it had bad lighting, wouldn't effect them much.

  11. All animals (including parakeets) have a six sense about weather. and whenever bad weather is coming or happening they try to hide. and especially birds act weird because when they are free they try to fly into good weather in flocks.

    :)

  12. Yup.  It most likely does.  Remember they usually go the opposite direction during the winter and you hardly ever see them out having a shower in the rain.  I believe weather conditions affect most animals.

  13. yea itz wierd but animals can tell before a storm or something dangerous hits
