Does weed really freeze brain cells?

Someone said that it doesn't kill them, it freezes them.

That sounds weird.

  1. From the good old GOV:

"Research on the long-term effects of marijuana abuse indicates some changes in the brain similar to those seen after long-term abuse of other major drugs. For example, cannabinoid withdrawal in chronically exposed animals leads to an increase in the activation of the stress-response system3 and changes in the activity of nerve cells containing dopamine.4 Dopamine neurons are involved in the regulation of motivation and reward, and are directly or indirectly affected by all drugs of abuse."

    Excerpt From:

This effect would happen to anyone using any dopamine-affecting drug, such as Hydrocodone, Dilaudid, or whatever else a pharmacist might give you for pain.  Maryjane doesn't kill brain cells or freeze them any more than anything your doctor/pharmacist might give you.  What's funny to me is that pharmaceuticals are designed to NOT produce pleasurable feelings while stopping the pain.  Maryjane is on the blacklist because it was used by youth during the turbulent 60's and because it makes you feel good while stopping the pain.

There are tons of pharmaceuticals that will make you uncoordinated and goofy, so that's not the reason why it's blacklisted either.  Another reason might be because it's  a natural plant and therefore can't be patented - thus making no big money for anyone.

That said, it's not a good idea to buck the gov on this one.  They're far too invested in the drug abatement programs they have going.  If you have pain or anxiety, just go to a doc and explain it to him.  He'd much rather you took something legal and under his watchful eye, than smoke pot, and you won't be caught by the cops and get a record.

  2. That is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard. Weed kills the brain cells. Is weed ice cold? Think about that.

  3. I highly doubt it.

From what I understand, long-term use of marijuana interrupts the transfer of brainwaves.  In your brain, you have electric impulses that jump from on place to another.  After you've smoked enough pot, they stop jumping as much.  That's why you suddenly lose thoughts - because they don't complete their journey to wherever they're going.

  4. That just goes to show you can't believe everything you hear !

the government (US and UK) would happily have you believe that it freezes and kills braincells.

I think that it does have an effect on memory but I do think it's blown out of all proportions to feed the 'war on drugs' currently ongoing.

Moderation is the key, have break and don't smoke all the time.

If you put it in comparision to all the other drugs out there (tobacco for example) MJ is really not that bad. You don't have to smoke it to get the effects and I love eating weed.

They (the Gov) have started something with this war they can no way win, MJ has gotten too far into normal society that it is NOT going away.

I think they need to realise this.
