Does white ink tattoos cost more than black or colored ink?

I was wondering if the white ink costed more like an all white tattoo?

And I've been looking at them and they looked like they were raised..

Is that just an illusion or are they actually raised.

Any information I can have on white tattoos would be great!

  1. I disagree with sand. You need to be smart about white tattoos. If you put it on your wrist or somewhere that gets a lot of sun, then yeah, it's probably going to fade. If you're not light skinned, it's not going to look that white.

However, I am very fair skinned and have an all white tattoo on my ribs. Meaning, the only time that it sees sunlight is when I am at the beach. I've had it for a year and 4 months now and have never had a touch up and it is still as white as the day I got it. White only works for a small minority.

  2. It should be the same cost as any other tattoo - my tattoo artist I know would charge the same amount.

As an aside, I asked my tattoo artist about getting a white tattoo and he recommended against it. He said they are all the rage but at the same time they never really appear 'white' but rather they end up looking kind of milky.  As a beta test he had tattooed an inconspicuous amount of white on his arm and yes, it didn't look really white - which makes sense because it is actually blending with the color of your skin.

Also, it fades pretty quickly, and they aren't really raised, it's more of an optical illusion because of the lighter bit that naturally stands out over the natural color of your skin.

  3. White ink tattoos are a trend right now. The thing is that white is the fastest ink to fade. Basically, it almost disappears and needs touch ups forever. Kind of a waste of money, time and pain.

Have you ever seen one that is more than a year old without having a touch up? Yeah, me neither.

The reason why the ones that you have seen were raised, is because they were fresh and still healing.

They would cost the same as any tattoo - by the hour.
