  1. I do not think it would effect IBS so much - as for acid reflux, some alcohol and wine may effect it in a not so nice way especially if you're drinking very acid/citrus type drinks etc...

  2. yes

  3. Yes and yes.

Wine affects IBS by causing irritation, not really sure the exact mechanism but may be related to alcohol causing blood vessel dilatation or absoprtion of alcohol causing bowel wall irritation.

Wine causes acid reflux for a proven mechanism.  Alcohol, along with nicotine and caffeine, causes the upper gastric sphincter to be loose, thereby allowing gastric acid to reflux back.  This is a well proven phenomenon that you can easily find on any study involving acid reflux.  Try to google GERD.

  4. I have acid reflux so I can help you with that.

Wine is an absolute no-no with acid reflux. Anyone with moderate to severe reflux will avoid wine at all costs. Besides orange juice, I can't think of anything worse to drink to set off a severe bout of reflux. I don't know that the alcohol is as big a problem as the acid in the wine as red wines seem more severe than whites; and other alcoholic beverages don't seem to bother reflux at all.

  5. It may.

Alcohol has a diuretic affect. Many people have watery stools after drinking or drinking heavily.

Some major contributors to acid reflux are calcium, alcohol, and caffeine.
