  1. yes

  2. Also apart for the above good points.... many times to cut cost manufacturers will treat the rear speakers as one single speaker. meaning the same sound will come out of both speakers thus not providing a true 5.1 surround.

  3. I have a wired system and the rear speaker cables are a MAJOR pain in the ***. I've always been tempted to get a wireless home theater system but 2 things have always held me back. 1-Price. 2-Fear of delay. If there's even the slightest delay in the wireless signal, then the sound will not match the on screen image and it will drive you batty. Test a wireless system before you buy it.

  4. I've never used them, but all reviews I've read say the same thing: you gain in convenience but lose somewhat in sound quality. If you use for rear speakers this might be OK, but they are not recommended for front/centre speakers.

While you don't have a long wire from the main amp for the speaker, you do still need a power cord and a separate amp since the speakers have to be powered somehow. Also there is the risk of hum (which is a complaint about some systems) and/or interference from other wireless devices.

See the 1st Link for a good article.

Rocketfish -- mentioned in the above referenced article -- make a reasonable system for rear speakers that sells in the US for $99 at Best Buy ($199 in Canada!).

The second link lists some other marketed products from Advent, JBL and Creative.

    Hope this helps.
