Question:

Does wrestling get old?

Well as I get older I find myself less interested in sports entertainment but at the same time I don't believe its me getting older, I just don't think wrestling is as good as it used to be.

Ever since the death of WCW I feel that wrestling is missing that competitive edge.

Any thoughts?

  1. I find the same thing true. Wrestling isn't as edgey and entertaining as it use to be. When i went into 7th grade i completely stopped watching it for 6 months because i just didn't care about it anymore, everytime i watched it, it was the same thing. I found it boring. But i've been watching it continuously since then, at times i find it dull but i enjoy discussing it, and i watch for certain wrestlers i support as performers and people.

  2. EXCUSE ME? CM PUNK IS HOTTTTTTTT. I NEVER GET TIRED OF WWE AND IT IS NOT GETTING OLD YOU ARE GETTING OLD.

  3. WCW be back before too long..Stay Tuned, your NOT too old for wrestling.

  4. dude its not that your gettin older its that the wrestlers are granpas . plus to be perfectly honest how many times can you watch a guy get slammed through the spanish anounce table . i mean its cool but it does get old.

  5. Has wrestling ever not been old?

  6. just wait awhile once Kane gets a push and goes back masked and when ecw goes back to extreme and when helms comes back u'll love it but dount count on it ;D

  7. It has gone down from what it once was, and the ratings reflect that.

Competition brought out the best in the WWE and WCW, and that's something we probably will never see again. But with what TNA and WWE are doing at the moment, I can see high things in the future of wrestling. Wait 2-3 more years, and the new blood might inject some life into pro-wrestling.

The Indy circuit is hot, as is Japan, those are good options if WWE and TNA don't cut the mustard.

  8. No, after the attitude era, everything has pretty much sucked.  except mick folley...I <3 him.

p.s.  john cena sucks  :)  i wish he'd break his little pinkies so i wouldn't have to watch him do that again!

  9. God this is the smartest thing I've heard all day

    THANK YOU!!!!!

  10. This is true for most fake things.  And most who watch it like to see nearly naked sweaty men grope each other, sorry, just the facts of life.

  11. WAT U TALKIN BOUT JOHN CENA MAKES WRESTLING WRESTLING TO ME...SO SEXC

  12. Yeah i agree with you,but it's because despite TNA coming up in the ranks the WWE fell that they're so high & mighty that they don't even NEED to try there best with that competitive spirite they had with the Ratings Wars again. Starred.

  13. Wrestling has been on its downfall

    THE DAY

    WWF bought WcW and EcW

WcW nitro was the biggest thing in wrestling with the

    Wolfpac, Nwo, Goldberg, and Sting

so ya i think if they hadnt bought the wcw it would be ok for a little while

  14. No honey you just getting out.

  15. I agree,

but sometimes it can also get more interesting.

    I miss WCW.

and Three Count because of Shannon and Shane/Gregory.

    :) lmao.

    That was great.

  16. hAHAHA this is so right it is getting boring and boring.

i guess i'll just keep pressing the prev. button

  17. I don't believe age has anything to do with it.  I'm 51 and I've been watching wrestling for 41 years.  Watching two skilled well-trained wrestlers against each other is just as entertaining and exciting to me now as it was  41 years ago.

I think the problem is two-fold.  1.  There is no longer any "smoke and mirrors", no more secrets, no kayfabe.  We all know they're just "acting" out a script, not really competing against each other.  2.  The emphasis on storylines and skits the past several years has really taken away from the actual wrestling match itself.  Because of that focus on storylines actual wrestling skills are not really needed anymore.  To make it in the WWE acting skills, public speaking skills, and the right "look" are more important than wrestling skills.

The art of wrestling is not lost; you'll find many highly-skilled mat technicians toiling away in the indys, unable to get a foot in the WWE door because they're either "too small" or don't have the right "look".  Vince wants people with the right "look" and size he can turn into cartoon superheroes and supervillains to play the characters in their sometimes very cartoonish storylines.  Unfortunately, to get and keep their national TV deal TNA has been forced to follow that same formula.  TNA has some very skilled wrestlers but they've been kind of pushed into the background to make room for the "WWE" type of storylines.

WCW was home to a lot of very skilled wrestlers, where the right "look" was less important than in-ring talent (at least until Eric Bischoff and Vince Russo took over).  The WWF had to offer wrestling of that caliber to stay ahead of WCW.  But, as you say, once WCW (the WWE's final competition) was gone, the WWE no longer had to present skilled wrestlers and they could focus on storylines and skits, and let their wrestling suffer.  Proof?  Why has the WWE not tried to find the next Bret Hart?  Or Eddie Guerrero?  Or Chris Benoit?  Answer: they don't need to.

When you get bored with the WWE's offerings, try TNA, or ROH if it's available in your area.  If not, go to youtube and dailymotion and watch wrestling from Japan and Mexico.  There is still a lot of great wrestling going on around the world.  The WWE is not the be-all end-all of wrestling.
