Does writing letters to companys to get things done better than calling them

  1. Sometimes yes, sometimes no.  When I write a letter, I like to carbon copy the person's boss.  Many times, the subordinate will go out of their way to fix the problem because they know the boss will be expecting a solution.  


  2. Depends on what the issue is, but anytime you write, you create a record.  If you call, it can easily be ignored.  Some finance companies will flat out tell you that you can call if you have an issue, but you will only preserve your rights if you write.

  3. The best luck I have had is in writing to the President of the company.  As long as you are not abusive your letter will get some attention.

    In a large company what will happen is that a secretary will open the mail and either send your letter in to the President or send it to a department head to take action.

    In most cases you are better off if it goes to the department head because he/she will assume that the President wants favorable action (to you) taken and will get moving real quick.
