Does your average US bank exchange foreign currency?

i have some pesos left over from my trip to mexico, and i was wondering if most banks (like citizens etc.) would exchange them for U.S. dollars, or will i have to go to a special place? if so, where can i go?

  1. Call your bank and ask who does it in the area... here in Albany NY there is only one bank out of 8 that does foreign currency exchange.

    (I thought they all did until I had to do it! Oh, and they charge a huge fee... you might not even be getting enough money back to make it worth your while to drive to the bank.)

        No, most banks do not convert foreign currency.  One place you can try, as a starting point, it the American Express Office.
