Question:

Does your baby try to crawl away when diaper's changed?

My 10 month old has recently decided she doesn't like laying down for a diaper change. She won't lay still! She twists and turns and won't allow me to change her without a big debacle. The only thing that sometimes works is if I giver her something interesting to play with, to distract her. Is that the right thing to do? What do you do? I guess I could hold her down with my feet... haha... or I could just let her wander away while I change her on her tummy or standing up... OR should I just tell her "No" firmly, and keep turning her over while she's crying, no matter how frustrating it is?

  1. All 3 of my children did this, and my nephew who is also 10 months does the exact same thing.  I always give him a toy or his bottle to keep him still, there isn't anything wrong with that, it gives her something to do and makes things way easier on you.  Good luck.

  2. I remember when my neice started doing that. Around 10 months too. Changing her bacame a nightmare. Chasing her around the room with the nappy only half on! Distraction is the best tactic to get her to lie still. You can keep telling her No and trying to get her to stay. Thats what i would do. But do give her a toy to look at if that helps. Anything to make your life easier. My bubs cant move yet and my sister in law is so jealous because its such a mission changing her daughter. Haha. But my time will come! good luck

  3. My six month old does the same exact thing!! I tend to give her something to play with to keep her still for a while. When that does not work, then as long as I am finished wiping her off, I put on the diaper in whatever position she's in!

I don't think anything is wrong with giving your baby something to distract her. After all, she is only 10 months, expecting her to sit still for extended periods, especially as she is probably excited with her new found skill of movement, is a big order. Don't be to tough on her.. with time she'll get better I'm sure

    Good luck!!

  4. My son is 8 1/2 months old and does this...which really sucks when I'm trying to wipe his bum after a p**p. I usually give him the toilet paper to play with while I'm changing him, since I change him on the floor in the bathroom. If I change him on the bed, it's the TV remote or phone. Sometimes those don't work and I just let him crawl around naked. He actually pooped on the carpet yesterday, but I cleaned it up right away and you'd never know it happened. After awhile he forgets why he was crawling away and comes to see me, at which point I get a diaper on him. He's such a busy boy, and loves to be naked.
