Question:

Does your car insurance premium go up if a claim is filed against you, but is dropped? ?

A guy hit my car a few weeks ago, and we decided to work things out between ourselves. I don't have time to fix my car until December since I need it for school and I'm too young to drive a rental car. I called my insurance for advice on how to go about all this, and they recommended that I file a claim for my protection (in case he decides not to pay). They indicated that if I decided not to fix the car through insurance, then my premium and the guy at fault's premium would not rise. However, once I filed the claim, the guy who hit me got a call from his insurance saying he would have to pay. What's up with that?

If we end up working it out between each other, and I dismiss the claim, will his premium go up anyway?

  1. Sounds to me like it really screwed you in this deal. Maybe you could get good luck here.http://carinsurance.expertsupport.info/a...

  2. If he pays, and the insurance doesn't, they won't raise his premiums since they did not pay out.

And of course they would contact him once you filed a claim against him, that's the way it works.
