Does your cat always try to keeep you from reading the newspaper?

Question

Almost without exception, within minutes of opening the paper to read, here comes the cat to swat it down and plop on top of it. Is this normal cat behavior or is my cat just on his own power trip?

My cat ALWAYS sits on top of whatever I'm doing! like homework, book, etc.

Its totally normal, your cat wants attention from you!

That's normal cat behavior.  They're also known to ruin monopoly games (particularly ones that have been going on for a few hours), walk right in front of where you want to walk, and sit in the biggest most comfortable chair.

Cats can be very egotistical.

hahaha aww all the time, every time i eat at the table if there news paper on it that I'm not reading, she comes and sits there anyway! and she does it while i am reading it! i think its totally fine with me, but if you were reading something and here comes the cat to sit on it, i would be kind of mad but i love my cat to death so, i don't hardly find a problem with it!

Yep both of my cats. They just want you to pay attention to them rather than the newpaper. They seem to know when to get your attention hahah! My cats also like to sit on my computer key board and it screws up my typings in my emails.

Nah-he's cool about that.

Does like making sure the litter is placed proper.

What he will do is act as a book stand-sits between the legs and props the book up as watching T.V.( And likes Classical.)

These stories are all so funny.  1 of my babies named Pesky who lives up to his name thinks everything is a toy and he's supposed to play with it, doesn't matter if it's moving or not.  He helps us wrap presents too by laying on the paper to hold it down.  He helps me change the sheets on my bed by holding the sheets down, especially the bottom sheet when I need to pull it over the corners.

One cat strikes me if I read when she needs attention, The big male just pushes the book down and lays on it. The persian cat bites the book or tears up the newspaper. If I make the mistake of trying to read while standing I get cats climbing my legs. Cats hate reading, it cuts into their time. Sometimes I get peaceful reading in the bathroom (if I ignore the indignant howls outside the door). Cats resent you paying attention to anything that is not them. Ever try to talk on a phone with cats around? They are sure you are talking to them.

My Cats do it all the time on books or magazines they come up and sit on the pages :)
