Does your dog sleep with it's eyes open?

We have a Beagle and he always seems to have his eyes open when he sleeps. It really scares me because half the time I think he's dead so I have to pound on the window to get him to wake up just to reassure myself. My husband and I have never seen a dog do this before so we're just curious if anyone else's dog, cat etc. does this.
