  1. Or a backfire.  If your engine backfired, that might ignite fumes.

There is also the possibility that your car might slip into gear, roll while clutching the hose, and rip the hose off the pump.  Or crash into another pump.

  2. Yes..............

It is very important to turn off your car’s engine while pumping gas. Gasoline vapor that comes into contact with electrical wires while an engine is on can trigger an explosion.

  3. The odds are AGAINST anything happening, BUT, who wants to take the chance?????  turn it off.

Back in the "OLD" days, I drove clunkers that would start sometimes and usually DIDN'T, so I gassed up with the motor running dozens and dozens of times. Guess I was lucky, EH?

  4. Yes. It should be turned off. The reason is because gasoline and gasoline fumes can easily ignite if it contacts sparks. With a car engine running, your car is producing sparks constantly. So, do everyone a favour and turn off your engine.

  5. Gasoline isn't very explosive but the vapors from it is. The vapor is heavier than air and settles and spreads quickly. The biggest danger is if you spill some but even without spilling the vapor from the tank opening, during refueling can spread the length and breadth of the car. If the engine is running a spark can set it off. And it isn't only your car you have to worry about. At double islands the car in front is refueling very close to your engine. The same goes at many side by side fuel islands. I saw a film once where a station blew up because the guy pumping gas, in the winter time, spilled gas on his clothes and walked into the building where a fuel oil heater was burning. They finally figured out that the vapors from his clothes left a trail from the pump all the way inside and the flame ran that trail. Isn't worth taking the chance. Dead is dead and burned from head to toe is, in some ways, even worse.

  6. YEAH ITS LIKE TAKING A SHOWER WITH A TOASTER INSIDE. ITS JUST THINGS YOU DONT WNAT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU TRY TO DO WHATS NOT SUPPOSED TO DO. YEAH YOUR CAR COULD PROBABLY CATCH ON FIRE. BUT IF YOU DO TRY IT UMMM I LOOK ON THE NEWS AND SEE IF YOU ARE THERE. HAHA
