  1. Yes we do.  We have

    cucumbers

    green beans

    watermelon

    cantaloupe

    okra

    squash

    tomatoes

    artichokes (my first time growing)

  2. Yes, and in fact, I have had many gardens over the last many years from vegetable gardens to flower garden to gardens to of areas of relaxation and beauty.

Gardening, and discussing gardening has added a lot of  and entertainment to my life.

I always enjoy talking with other gardeners, as, they too, have an appreciation for life and all the new and beautiful life forms that are created.

  3. Growing up my grandmother had a backyard garden, and so did a lot of our neighbors.

My grandmother, her next door neighbor (Nana), and Poppa five doors down, all loved to grow vegetables in their gardens.   Now of course I wasn't related to Nana or Poppa. but since the three families were so close, all the kids called each others grandparents by those names.

Every year the three of them would each grow different things in their respective gardens, and every year they would trade between themselves so everyone got a little of everything.

Example, Grandma would trade Poppa cherry tomatoes and eggplant for fresh basil and carrots, while Nana would trade her bell peppers and roses (not veggies but still nice to have) with each of them.  By the end of the season everyone would have a good stock of fresh produce.  Everyone got to socialize while working on their yards, and save a bundle on their grocery bills to boot.

Bonus: all the grand kids got great lessons on growing different fruits and vegetables by helping out.  The same lessons that I put to good use today in my own garden.

Did I mention we all live in the middle of NYC?
