I peeled about 10 oranges and my hand started stinging. Ouch!! Rinsing nor washing with soap didn't help. What causes this?

  1. No, but my hands turn a little bit yellow.  You might have had a cut on your hand.  Hope you feel better.

  2. You might have an allergy to oranges. Otherwise, you could possibly have some 'small' paper cuts or nicks that aren't easily noticeable. These are a few reasons for the skin reactions. If this persists with oranges and other citrus foods, you should have this checked out by a professional, as a doctor. What shall we then say to these things? If GOD be for us, WHO can be against us? - Romans 8:31. The Lord daily loadeth us with BENEFITS, even the GOD of our salvation. Selah. - Psalm 68:19    - Peace

  3. it is because of the acid in the oranges. it burns if you peel to many. your hands will be fine, just take a little while, for the ph to return to normal.

  4. you might have little cuts or grazes on your hands. we can irritate our skin easily with objects that are harsh or bumpy or whatever. the orange might just be getting into little nicks and cuts on your hands?

either that or you could be allergic?

  5. I'm allergic to all things orange like oranges and pumpkin. It burns when I handle them after a while.

  6. It could be an allergy. More likely it's the acid. One thing to try migt be to make a little paste of baking soda and water and rub it over your hands, should neutralize the acid.
