Does your high school / college / work place have a recycling service?

Question

My high school doesn't and I want to ask the management to start one, but I first want to know if the majority had recycling programs, and build up an argument for my school to have one too. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The middle school where I work recycles.  All of the students are involved, and we are working to make all of them more aware of the importance of recycling.  Our recycling committee is called the Green Hornets.  The recycling push was started by our New Arrival Center teacher and his students.  We have plastic bottle recycling, paper recycling, ink cartridge recycling, and cell phone recycling.  Even our custodians are involved!  Our NAC and Outdoor Education students have even planted a butterfly/hummingbird garden and included a few basic vegetables.  We have started a composting project as well and have earned an education grant to help with a good many of the costs associated with our project.  I am proud to say that I am on the Green Hornets Committee that proposes and adopts policies and promotes the recycling efforts.  We are working hard to involve our local community as well and challenge the other schools in our district to follow suit. Currently our school district uses styrofoam plates and plastic "bowls" for each food item served to each student.  Plastic cutlery is used too.  Our next big project is to convince the school district that this practice is quite bad for the environment and quite expensive.  We intend to lobby for the return of reusable cafeteria trays and real cutlery that can be washed.  While the initial investment will be greater, in the long run, and for many reasons, we believe this to be a more cost effective and more responsible solution.

the high school could make money recycling the pop cans or possibly a group or team could start it all the school in our area have the program in place from cardboard dumpsters to the large blue bins in the school for the various materials

Your argument can be simple.  Dollars make sense to bean counters.

Our local Kiwanis club helped raise money to set up recycling at the new high school.

The savings in the cost of trash services paid for itself.  This is not just redeeming cans and bottles for the deposits. It is recycling paper and shop products.  Also purchasing a very large industrial composter for all the cafeteria food and soiled paper products.  Paper plates not plastic.  Not everything was done at once.  Items that started paying for themselves or reduced the hauling cost the most, gave the biggest bang for the buck.

So start your argument off with “How much do you now spend?” “Keeping within this budget and going green is a good publicity action.  Reducing the cost is even more so.” Unless they are getting kickbacks from the trash company, they will go along with it.

My workplace does have recycling, as well as a number of other environmental initiatives. I am lucky, though, my boss is super cool and a big environmentalist. First, you should research recycling in your area; the management will want to know things like, what kinds of things will be recycled? Where will the recycling go? Who is going to take it there? How much will it cost? It can be tough to get support for things like that, but if you put together a well-thought out proposal, and offer to help out a lot with the initial work, I'm sure you can be successful.

Having a recycling program for your high school is beneficial to the environment and can also make your school some extra money.  There are many programs out there that are only available for schools (and other non-profit orgs) to utilize in order to make money recycling things like aluminum cans, ink cartridges, electronics, paper, etc.  I know my HS recycled tons of paper and aluminum cans during the time I was there.

1.Plastic Free. Don’t Store Plastic Bags/Cups/Spoon( for example. Take Cotton Bag with you to market/Shopping)

2.Unutilised items like broken Cycle/Old TV Cover/broken Table/Chairs/Tyres/ Un Utilised/Non Repairable items like Bike/Car/Mixer/Washing Machine/Cooler/Utensils.

Note: Please Dispose this items which is not is use. Sent it for Re-Cycle.

3. What type of Conveyance are you using?

1.Car    2.Two Wheeler  3.Cycle 4.Using Public Transportation/Train

Note: Utilise Public Transportation/Sharing Auto/Car. You can avoid Traffic Jam/Parking Problem.Keep one two wheeler/One Car/One House for each family.( Don’t buy more than that). It will help us reduce Petrol Expenses/Pollution/Parking/Traffic Jam.

Note: Please present Flowers/Anthorium Saplings/Rose/Seeds of Different type of Seeds as Gift to your Friends/Relatives.This will reduce the waste of Plastics Paper/Balloon/Wrapper/Cartoon Box.

AVOID

1. Avoid Smoking/Chewing Tobacco/pan and avoid Smoking/Spitting in Public Place. Smoking leads to Health disorder and it is leads to Cancer.

2. Avoid wasting Food in House/Function. If food is excess, please share the food with Poor. Take limited food in your Plate. Do not throw in dust Bin.

3. Avoid dumping Materials in House/Office. Be Plan before buying any Materials.

4. Avoid unnecessary Travels. Be plan before Travel.

5. Pray Rivers. But Do not throw Plastic Bags/Garbage on River. ( I have seen many people are throwing Garbage bag in river. Rivers are very Important for our Life.

6. Do not use Coluring Agent for Hair. It will make eye irritation/Stain in Shirt collar/Pillow Cover/Bed Sheets.

7. Do Simple Marriage. This will help us to save Money/Food/Transportation/ Reduce  arrangements etc.

Please Run Cycle (if your office/School is near to your Hose) for your Health/Wealth.

Running Cycle is keep your Body Fit. Also it helps us to reduce Petrol Bill/Pollution/Weight/Bulging Stomach/Obesity/Gas trouble in stomach and of course reduce your Petrol Bill/Medical Bill.
