Question:

Does your insurance go up even for a 0 demerit point infraction?

I live in Ontario, Canada. Last year I got a speeding ticket, going 18km/h over the speed limit. I took it to court and got it reduced to 5km/h over. My question is, how will insurance companies look at this? Do insurance companies even care about 0 demerit point offenses or is there a chance my insurance may go up because of this.

  1. Most insurance companies only check driving records once a year and some of them take even longer.

A zero point violation in most cases will not raise your automobile insurance at all.

However, if this is your second infraction there might be a higher chance of a raise though I doubt that will be the case.
