Too much info, I'm sorry.

I had my first period in June and didn't get one in July. Then it came on August 17th. My first period was June 7th and lated until the 14th. I would have thought that it would be light the whole time- but it wasn't at all! It was heavy and so annoying. I couldn't walk from my shower to my room without blood all over my leg. So, then I discovered tampons and started wearing those. But for me I need to change them every 2 or so hours. I wear Playtex Sport the regular ones. I should be using a bigger size, but they hurt to take out. I can't go the whole night with a jumbo sized pad even: I had it in for about 7 hours before it was just a big mess. I have a doctor's appt. on Friday - should I talk to her about this (very embarassing!) or should I try and wait it out? And in the next few months will this get better or worse?

Thank you so much!

  1. I can only speak for myself, but when I first got my periods, and really through jr. high & high school, they were very irregular (every 6-8 weeks) and almost always heavy. I had the same issue as you do with trying to sleep. I was never a fan of tampons back then, but when I used a pad, it would be soaked through by morning. I actually would sleep on a little blanket so I would stain it instead of my bedclothes. (How's THAT for embarrassing!) My period only became regular, less heavy, and steady when I started taking birth control. They say if your periods are so unbearably heavy that BC is an option. But if this is only your second period, I'm thinking this is just something you'll get used to. You'll start to learn how your body reacts to and handles your periods. However, it certainly doesn't hurt to ask your doctor these kinds of questions - that's what they get paid for! :) Good luck!

  2. yep no that one hu lots of pain to whilst on no fun there are night towels that are better when first come on  they shud in time settle down hun

  3. how do you know that bigger tampons hurt to take out when you've only gotten your period once?  and in one period, how do you "discover" tampons?  most girls use pads for years before jumping to tampons.  and you're not supposed to wear a pad for 7 hours...they will get messy if left that long!  i think you just need to talk to your mom about how to deal with your period!  you need a bigger tampon...you have a heavy flow.  end of story.  if you don't want to use a bigger one, then you'll have to use a smaller one and change it every two hours...that's a decision you make.  and no, they don't tend to get lighter the more you get them.

  4. Yes, talk to your doctor about it because she or he can prescribe you blood tinners or birth control to help ease the periods and make them lighter and come less often. It sounds to me like you have a bleeding disorder. It's not dangerous or anything, but it is annoying. Definitely talk to your doc about it because i wouldn't want to put up with that.
