I will start off by saying that I'm white and I'm NOT racial in any way. Ok, well I didnt think it mattered what I bought my sons for school clothes. But I was talking to one of my black friends and she said that I should'nt buy my sons "south pole" clothes because they were made to look good on black kids. So I also bought ECKIO (however you spell it) and she told me the same thing. I just want my kids to fit in at school with out breaking the bank. I'm I suppose to buy all polo and GAP or something? Sounds dumb to me IDK. What do you think?

  1. there are certain brands that certain races wear. i dont think it matters BUT kids are mean at school and might try to pick on him. South Pole and Ecko seem to be more popular among blacks. so.......its up to you. just because your white doesn't mean you HAVE to wear Polo or Gap! lol. they sell "polo's" at Target and they are cute and EVERY race can wear them. =] kids are silly

    Target's Polo's are $8

  2. Well I am white and my husband is white and black. It shouldn't matter what your kids wear because our children should not be walking around telling other kids you can't wear that because it wasn't made for your race. That is stupid and that is exactly what the kids will pick up on from their parents. So white kids can't wear FUBU or South Pole, but you tell african americans they can't wear Old Navy and it would be the same thing. It's not right. The race issue will never get better if we don't all start letting our kids know that they are all human and that is what life should be based on- not color. Racists come in all colors- not just white. I would talk to your friend about the comments made and if they feel that way maybe they are not really your friend after all.

  3. Umm no. my older brother wears south pole and all that stuff and he's wight.

  4. Funny enough, I thought I was the only one that had run into this weird un-problem. I found some very nice articles of clothing that I felt were suitable for school, that really had no brand name logo posted on them( I hate those kinds of clothes that show the brand all over the shirt, I'd much rather people look at my face than my clothes). When I got them home, my brother came by and said jokingly that I had gotten my sons "gangster" clothes?  I think some people (including my bro) really have too much time on their hands if they're that concerned about what brand I choose to dress my sons in. ( the brand was ecko, fyi.)

  5. It shouldn't matter at all. What matters is that your children are happy with their clothes, and that you're not breaking the bank! Like you said, what does she expect you to do, head down to the GAP, invest in khakis and sweater vests so your sons look like little Chandler Bings? ;-)

Also, making comments like that just reinforces people's stereotypical beliefs. How can we get rid of racism, if we continue to stereotype?

  6. u child can wear anything they r u want, its ur money who paid for it, not ur friends, maybe she wants it for her own self/kids, and want u to take it back or something

  7. I buy my boys what ever i feel is appropriate for them... name brand or not... i dont buy south pole as it is too expensive for our budget but i do get the boys old navy and what ever ... that was rotten thing for your friend to say and i think she was probably jealous of the clothes u bought for your children... clothes have no race just people and buy your kids whatever u like and let them enjoy it... forget about stereotype and what is race appropriate... clothes are racists people are and that is terrible to think...

  8. Does your child go to a White school? If so, the kids honestly don't care. I was one of the only black kids in school, and as much as I told them, none of them cared that I didn't like Tommy Hilfiger or banana Republic or anything. I learned to deal with it too.

If you are trying to save money, you could do what my parents did: Buy the brand name clothes: American Eagle, Aeropostle, Hollister, etc. at value stores, like Value City. What most do is get clothes from like a year ago from brand name stores and sell them for discount prices. They look just as good and are certainly affordable.

  9. I think that is hillarious because where I live all the white kids are the ones wearing South Pole and Ecko.

I just choose what I think looks good... even if it was designed for black/white/yellow/red kids.

  10. wow...your black friend sounds like a complete dumba** when it comes to that..

h**l NO your race doesn't matter..its what the kids like that counts.
