I want my dad's girlfriend to be my realtor. My fiance and I are buying a home together, but he doesn't have that great of a credit score and he is embarrased for my dad to potentially know this. (he is currently trying to make it better and we rent and are tired of renting!!!) I would like to see what our options are with just my income and info and then with his added in. So my question is, if I have a mortgage company check us for pre qualification, would my realtor see our credit reports? Thanks!

  1. Realtors don't see your credit report because they don't look after the financing. They only are the intermediaries between the buyer and the seller. Only the bank (lender) or the mortgage broker will see your score.

  2. yes, they do

  3. This is one reason why working with family isn’t always the greatest idea. Lenders & agents often talk shop with each other, and while your dad’s GF may not see your full credit reports, it wouldn’t be uncommon for your lender to share with her that he’s (for example) having trouble finding a loan program for you because of your fi’s credit score.  You really shouldn’t work with an agent with whom you can’t be 100% honest about everything financial. They need to know what issues you’re facing so they can help you find solutions to accommodate them.

If you only talk to a lender and never actually look at homes, then the agent would never be involved. Otherwise, it will be difficult to keep this a complete secret.
