Does your vet call or one of the office staff?

My vet just called to say that she finished with Molly's surgery and she is doing fine. I didn't get to the phone in time, but, she left a message. I think it's awesome that the vet calls and doesn't put it off on her office staff to do.

Who calls you? Your vet or receptionist?

  1. Sadly, the only time my vet personally called me, was with bad news (a pet passed away during surgery).

She has nothing against calling her clients, she's just usually too busy to do so.

  2. the vet will call me and find out how my dog is doing every time.  but my dog is such a regular there at day care and also getting sick that I know all the reception staff so it wouldn't bother me if they called, but 9 times out of 10 the vet makes a call to check on how she's doing after she's been ill.

  3. The vet always call me to give me updates on my pets well-being.

  4. I have had both call me.

  5. My vet calls.

  6. I've had both call, depends on the situation.  Post-surgery, my vet Noel calls me herself, because she knows I'm such a worrier and she can answer any question I have.  If it's anything else then another staff member will call with a message from her.  Also, if I have a question for the vet, I'll call and leave my question with the receptionist and when I get a call back it is always the vet that calls.  I think my vet is wonderful, I really trust them and their opinions, you can just tell how much they care for their patients.  I've had other vets that I wasn't too pleased with them or how they were with my pets, which of course is why they do go there anymore.

  7. If it is regarding a serious matter the vet usually calls but I don't expect it. She is very busy and does large animals too, so I can't realistically expect personal service. As long as my cat and dog are cared for properly I will take a call from anyone at the clinic.

  8. It depends, the receptionist usually calls for our cats, but if it's serious the vet will call.

  9. I've been phoned by vet techs and the vet. Even when my husband's cousin was our vet; she would sometimes be too swamped to call and ask her fav tech to call us. I'm sure the vets would like to be able to phone everyone, but it really depends on if they have the time...what their schedules are like for the day.

    Was Molly spayed today?

  10. When Penny was spayed no one called me. I was supposed to receive a call about 2 or so by someone and by 3:30 I was freaking out. Of course hubby explained that if something bad happened they would have definitely let me know.

But yeah the vet usually calls and I really appreciate it. Its a lot easier to talk to the person who worked with my dog rather than someone just doing the paperwork.

  11. when they get groomed, the groomer calls.  when they get dropped off for routine care, the assistant usually calls.  (we drop them off because we work rescue so we usually have ten places to be at once!)  when its something big, the vet usually calls.

our vet is awesome!  we dropped off our 10 year old shar-pei rescue to be neutered and get shots.  she called me at work to tell me that he had heartworms.  she had to look up my number because i never gave them my work number.  then she treated him for the heartworms, but gave us a huge discount since he was a rescue.  she said she was just so glad that somebody was willing to give him a chance at his age.  then she came in after hours any time we had issues with his treatment.  (heartworm treatments are rough on them)  with all the follow-up visits, she only charged us for his medicines.  no office charges at all.  she also routinely takes in strays that are in bad shape and gets them fixed up and UTD on shots and spayed/neutered them sends them to us to get adopted.

sorry so much babble.  im just so grateful to her.  without her help, i don't know how we would have afforded to treat him.  my husband says he's my doggie soul mate!

  12. My vet called me after Emery got spayed and after my rabbit was neutered  He's pretty awesome.  The office staff called to check up on them a week after their surgeries.

  13. The receptionist calls, but it's a really busy surgery so I don't expect the vet to call. Although when we go see him he always gives us plenty of time and doesn't rush like I've heard some vets do.

Glad to her everything went well for Molly, she'll soon be back home with you wanting to be pampered!

  14. The receptionist calls me to confirm appointments. The vet calls to give me bad or good news

  15. The vet always calls with test results and has left messages asking me to return the call if I was out. Vets do not like to leave a message if it's bad news.

One of the receptionists phones if an appointment needs to be changed or a repeat prescription collected.

~ Get well soon Molly ~

  16. wait they call you................when they spayed my dog we had to call them. uh well than maybe I should go somewhere else. lol

come to think of it when I got my great pyrenees pup, she started pooping blood but we didn't think to get a stool sample, so the vet kept her for observation and just told us when to come back, she didn't even poo.

  17. Glad to hear Molly's doing well!  :-)

I've had both.  At my former vet, I never spoke to the vet unless I was in there...they were always "too busy".  But at my new one, there are several vets and if I call with a question or concern about medication, the vet calls me back ASAP.  It is very much appreciated.  And the staff calls to remind me about appointments.

  18. Both

  19. Both depending on what they are calling for.

Reception/staff for precription refills, appts and general info.

    Medical issues is the vets.

  20. The vet tech calls ... Wierd huh ?

  21. Our Vet calls with the follow-up(2-3 days after surgery), but Our receptionist calls right after surgery. This isn't bad of the vet to "put if off" on the staff. It's the staff's job. Remeber you pet is not the only one the vet cares for that day. Your vet(if like ours), during the day will be lucky to sit down and breath.
