No, it lights like any other lighter with the thumbwheel assembly. You press the thumbwheel down and it strikes the flint and lights the wick as the gas flows.

which the wick is soaked in,and a flame ensues.

Essentials:- Petrol, Flint, Wick, Cotton wool.

No, you got to turn the thumb wheel to produce the spark which ignite the wick.

However there are another type (Not Zippo) made in Sweden which turns the wheel automatically when you open it.
