  1. Only use them when visibility is LESS than 100 metres.

  2. In England you do not use your front or rear fog lights when it is not foggy - if you accidentally turn them on you will soon know it, as you annoy many other drivers who in turn will flash full beam headlights at you to remind you to correct your bad lighting.

Front fog lights should be designed very low to the ground and are only of benefit in VERY foggy conditions where the headlights are just creating glare, being reflected right back at you so that you see worse with them on than off - this is why on the MINI you can have front fog lights on with side lights; that is the best way to drive in really thick fog.

Rear fog lights are as bright as brake lights, and should be turned on in foggy conditions if there is a chance that an approaching driver behind you cannot see your less bright side lights. The brighter rear fog lights enable the approaching driver to see you earlier - once the car behind you is closer, you should out of courtesy switch off your rear fog lights to prevent dazzle (and to make it easier to recognize when you are braking).

  3. So I'm not the only one shouting at them I think they think it makes then look cool - w*nkers

  4. My ex thought they were to make the car look sporty, i didn't agree and neither did the police one 3 points and a fine later she learnt. I Had to walk home but I was laughing all the way

  5. people who drive 4x4 don't, they seem to have them on all the time

  6. Yep when it's foggy. It's a pity they don't hand out the £40 fixed penalty for it more often.

Nobody know's how to use the electric headlight leveling either they all have them turned up to high.

  7. I do. I do agree with you.

  8. The juvenile lamebrains think using their fogs makes them look "cool". How stupid can you be?

  9. press the button inside the car

  10. You are joking? Boy racers think they're there to make their cars look good!

  11. But....But its looks so cool to have them on all the time and blind everyone else!

Some people are just idiots. Wish they were stopped more often about it, its not nice being blinded when ure trying to drive.

  12. Here are my thoughts.

If you look at a foglight, you'll see the lens has vertical prisms in the glass. This is to create a fan-shaped, flat-topped beam. Also the foglight is mounted lower down. This all combines to illuminate what's BEHIND the fog, instead of the fog itself, which is what a headlight does. Therefore, foggies are designed to be used with the headlights off, because the headlights will just light up the fog, and you're back to square one. In fact, I'm old enough to remember when the light switch in a car went one way or the other, headlights or foglights, with "off" in the middle.

Foglights were introduced in the days when we had REAL fog in the UK, which we don't seem to get any more (not much, anyway). In those days, you couldn't see more than about five yards, and at a sensible speed in those conditions (about 20mph) they were adequate. Nowadays, they don't seem to be much use.

Regarding rear foglights (yes, I know you didn't ask, but here it is anyway) - the trouble with driving in fog is it's all too easy to tailgate the car in front without realising it - in fog, it looks further away. If rear foglights are used (I'm talking about in proper fog now, not just a bit of mist), and you keep your proper distance, they're not too bright - they just look like ordinary taillights. In short, I think they're a good idea - but they have to be used properly and sensibly (which means hardly ever).

So what does the law say about front foglights? Well, you're PERMITTED to use foggies instead of headlights in fog - but, as I said above, it doesn't make much sense nowadays, unless you can only see about five yards. And they make no sense at all if you've got your headlights on.

Also, you're PERMITTED to use foggies "in conjunction" with headlights at any time (this last one is what needs to be changed, in my view).

Most (OK, not all) people who use foggies nowadays are announcing to the world "I've got foglights, but I'm darned if I know what they're for".

  13. yes

if there is fog then use them. no one can say nothing

if there is no fog and its night time a cop in a bad mood can s***w ya .

best off dont use them unless you cant see infront of you .

or u tell the cops theye are not fog lights tell them its your reading lights when you feel like readıng infront of your car loll

  14. i hate the little b******s, so you guys with fogs,TURN EM OFF.

    GREAT COMMENTS FROM ALL

  15. Good question, so I'm not the only one mouthing off at the PRATS. Fog lights  are there to be used when weather conditions deteriorate and visibility is reduced to such an extent that regular taillights are no longer effective.  Fog lights are to be used in these conditions alone.  Unfortunately some idiots drive around all day with them on no matter what the weather is like, but it does make their car look cool; NOT !!!

On the other hand, there are those who don’t know when they should be using their headlights  (not piddly little park/side lights, and that is VERY dangerous.  There’s nothing worse than driving in the rain and  suddenly seeing a grey shape loom very quickly in front of you without warning.  When did they last check their highway code? probable the day they passed their test.

Thankfully some of us do know how and when to use our lights correctly, and lets hope more will follow soon.

  16. The boy racers think it looks cool to drive with them on in normal darkness and blind everyone else!

  17. What's also irritating is the plonkers who only use their sidelights when it is foggy.

The Highway Code says to use dipped headlights in poor viibility. Sidelights are not even visible until the car itself is visible so they're useless.

I blame driving schools. They only teach people the minimum to pass their test and not how to drive in bad conditions. Most people aren't interested enough in driving safely to follow up learning.

The police could also do more. A few high profile prosecutions might wake the idiots up a bit.
