It is sad.

Is this why so many people have problems spelling and using proper grammar?

Books are great! Read them!

  1. The reason, I believe, that no one wants to do their own work anymore is the fact that there are so many other mediums where they can get the information and not have to do the work. They feel like if they don't have to work, why should they? It is a sad, sad thing when people can't even find the will to do their own work anymore.

For instance, this summer we were given an assignment to read Crime and Punishment over the summer for my AP English class. Nearly half the people decided to opt out of reading the book and use cliff notes or spark notes instead. I was mad because I had enjoyed it a lot; people were just too intimidated to read it because they heard that it was difficult.

  2. i believe that it is actually school making kids turn away from books. i have summer reading that i have to do, and of course, i dont want to waste my summer reading a book i didnt choose. im discouraged from reading, i dont like to. i hate being forced to read books that i dislike. for example, great expectations, the old man and the sea, the great gatsby, animal farm, the moon is down and a tale of two cities. i was forced to read them and i hated them!!

  3. oh no didn't you know the internet put an end to all that? thanks yahoo.

  4. no, they don't... it's kinda sad, in a way; i keep envisioning these kids grown up, with little to no knowledge that reading classic literature might provide them. Last year, I ACTUALLY cam across a kid who didn't know the colors of the American flag! It's a real pity.

  5. You are so right! It is so easy for people to say that they can read and are able to, but it is harder for them to keep it up. Isn't it sad when you think about it, in most instances when we are younger, as children when we learn to read, we always want to read a book then when we are finished we want to read another one and another one. Nowadays, you'll hear about people reading on a continued basis if you're lucky. Yeah, someone once told me that you never stop learning when you read and she was definitely right.

  6. i agree 100%

You dont learn anything if you dont read ^_^

  7. I know.  It's a sad world of technology.  Stupid cell phones and texts.  If I can't read a question, I just skip it.  Too many kids asking for answers on thier homework.  It's just wrong.  Technology is killing the real brain cells of the children.

My daughter doesn't have cable or internet.  I think that's great for my grandson.  He's learning how to eat dirt and play with worms like I did.  Tv for a babysitter is wrong, too...
