Is it normal for teenage girls to skip breakfast? My daughter doesn't eat breakfast because she thinks it's too early in the morning to eat. I've tried to get her to eat cereal, oatmeal, pizza, smoothies, everything. Is this normal for her? She does eat lunch and dinner though.

Thanks for any answers

  1. my 6 year old son doesnt like to either.... i can get him to eat once in a while... but thats it.... even my 24 year old hubby doesnt.. says its too early... makes his stomach hurt...

    id say its normal.

  2. im 16 and i absolutely love breakfast and cannot understand how people think its "too early" or can possibly skip it..im starving in the morning haha. maybe she eats too late?

  3. I'm 16 and I never have breakfast at home.

Then again, I wake up at 5:30 for school so I just don't feel like eating at about 6 o'clock in the morning.

I've actually talked to some of my friends about it and they agree that, when they wake up, they feel it's just too early to eat or drink anything.

The food usually tastes sort of....off, I guess.

But, depending on what her school is like, maybe it would be a good idea for her to grab something at the cafeteria, before class.

My school, for example, has bagels, muffins, croissants, fruit or toast every morning for about 1$.

So usually, I just grab a bagel because by then it's about a quarter to 8 and I start getting hungry.

And, if her cafeteria doesn't have that, just give her a granola bar or a piece of fruit to take with her.

It's not good for her to wait till lunchtime to eat.

  4. i'm 14 years old and i NEVER eat breakfast. don't know why, i guess i just prefer eating lunch and dinner instead?

my mom is the exact same as you.. she's always telling me to eat breakfast, and i always say i dont want to. usually i wake up at around 7:30, drink a glass of milk, go back to sleep for half an hour, and wake up at 8, get ready for school, and leave at around 8:25.

it may seem like i have time to eat, but i don't. and i dont want to eat in the morning anyways.. (agh, this is kinda hard to explain XD) i just don't feel like eating in the morning, since i just woke up. i'm also a bit concious about my weight, which is why i don't like eating breakfast (which totally doesn't make sense.. but it's how i think)

i think you should tell your daughter that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, if she doesnt eat she won't have any energy later on in the day, etc etc. i'm not sure if that'll convince her, but it's worth a try (it doesn't work on me though XD)

    i'd say it's normal for her to do that, since i do as well.. but no one else i know skips breakfast, so.. it's not very good ^^;;

hope that made sense.. XD & good luck!

  5. I haven't ate breakfast in a long time and im 21. when i was younger i never used to eat breakfast. i guess it is just a phase she's going through. she'll get over it.

  6. i'm 15 and i don't usually eat breakfast and if i do its only like a granola bar or something because if i eat too early in the morning i feel sick. plus i have lunch early enough that i can call it breakfast. my friends are the same way too.

  7. yea it's normal i hate when my mom try and gets me to eat

  8. lots of people skip breakfast!

  9. Yea, stop worrying.  Lunch as school is really early anyways.

  10. i didn't it breakfast all the time when i was a teenager as well. its really not anything big. i, however, did start eating something for breakfast when i realized that i got hungry around 10:00 and lunch was another hour or so away.

  11. I DONT EAT BREAKFAST AND I AM A TEENAGER

  12. Yeah, when I was in high school I rarely ate breakfast. But its because in the morning when I have the least amount of energy I was always running around trying to get ready that eating was the last thing on my mind. Plus when I thought food in the morning it made me sick. I think it was the nerves though of not knowing what to expect that day.

  13. Yes, most teenagers could care less about breakfast.  Little do they know that it is the most important meal of the day (feeds the brain cells). Work with her in "baby steps" such as a protein drink.  Locate health articles for her to read on the topic, perhaps then it will sink in.  Do not give up or in.

  14. It's normal for all ages, including teenagers, to skip breakfast. What she's doing is very bad for her though...she's chancing stunting her growth and not developing properly, along with lessening her ability to learn properly as her brain is not getting its proper nutrition. Make sure to let her know that.
