I just joined, (literally, about three minutes ago) and I'm already getting this impression. Perhaps it's the fact that  yahoo answers runs on a "points system" that creates competition. (I'm a little confounded on why this is so...)

Maybe that is the point of it.  Is there a point to this at all really  I guess if there is, then that could be it.

Some others might feel this way.  I don't.  I just give my best answer based either on what I know, or what info I've found.  If someone likes my answer - great.  If they don't - whatever.  I am not here to impress anyone.
