Question:

Doesn't it seem that the "Oscar-worthy" films are just boring subtitled crapfests?

No Country For Old Men was pretty good, but I'm tired of everyone raving for a movie about some British woman who meets a London fellow and romance ensues {snores}. Filming abroad should not constitute Best Picture.

i.e. Tombstone with Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer should have won an Oscar.

  1. I agree with the other person, but I wait to see what movies are nominated and avoid them as the devil to the cross.

  2. Movies that are nominated for awards showcase exceptional acting and monumental directing/writing.  While not always the most dynamic, many of these "slice of life" films show some keen insights into human nature.  It's a matter of difference regarding the target audience and purpose behind the film.  Many action and "chick flick" films are simply created to be a "cheap thrill" for those in the theater; others are meant to impact the lives of the viewers by causing them to examine their own lives in turn.  There is a huge difference between viewing a movie for a cheap thrill and appreciating a work of art.
