Question:

Doesn't it suck when you order a birthday cake from wal-mart two weeks in advance and they wait and call you

they day before you need the cake to tell you that they are out of the kit you ordered? You've already bought all your decorations for the party and NOONE else seems to have that kit or the availibility to do the cake on such short notice? NOW, what do I do for my kids birthday? The cake was supposed to be Dora The Explorer. Any suggestions?

  1. They should be calling other Walmarts to see if there's a kit available at one of the other stores....Talk to the manager of the Walmart.  ......also, go to Kroger or whatever your local grocery is, and see if THEIR bakery could do one up on short notice.  If not, then do a pink cake or cupcakes, and buy your own toppers for it.....

  2. First, I would be on the phone with both the bakery manager and the store manager raising Holy Caine with them since you did order it two weeks in advance.  They knew two weeks ago what was needed and should have been on it then.  If you do not get any satisfaction from them, go to the District Manager.  Make sure that you have any and all documentation to back you up.

Second, if you have paid any money in advance, demand a full refund for cash not store credit.

Third, like some one already mentioned buy a cake that has the same color scheme as your party decorations and see if you can salvage your child's birthday that way - maybe the decorations can make up for the lack of a Dora the Explorer cake.

Fourth, tell all your friends and acquaintances about your displeasure with Wal-Mart's bakery and their personnel - word of mouth is the worst publicity - in this case - that a store wants.

I hope that you can still salvage your child's birthday - depending upon his/her age maybe the lack of this specific cake wont be such a big deal.

  3. try COSTCO

they're cakes are simply delicious and can be ordered and made right on the spot

hopefully they'll have a location near you!

  4. Two suggestions:

    1) Call a baker and ask them what they can do

    2) Call the WalMart manager and explain your plight.  They might be able to get you some new decorations to match the cake (maybe - it's a longshot)

  5. Have them decorate the cake with only "Happy Birthday, xxxx" but with the color scheme of the other decorations you've already purchased.  You could go through the toy department and see if they have any little Dora decorations, maybe a small doll.  With all your other decorations, maybe the cake won't matter that much -- most kids like the presents the most anyway!

  6. How in the world can they not have the kit when you told them 2 weeks in advance? I suggest calling Walmart & see what they can do but if u can't wait for that i suggest places like Party City Or other party places where they may be able to have it. Good luck & i hope all works out.

  7. go to Bi-Lo and have their wonderful Deli people fix you up a cake right away ;-)

  8. Never call Walmart that far in advance for a cake. All the time they need is about 2 or 3 days. Go to a party city and buy the dora things to put on the cake.

  9. Check with Party City.  Hopefully there is one in your area.  I checked with my local store and they had Dora figures and Dora candles.  Are there any specialty bakeries in your area?  Check your yellow pages for cake decorators. Good luck.
