my dad's cousin entered our house without knocking while we were in our rooms sleeping, fixed herself a snack and then walked to our rooms and woke us up to just chat. i feel that is disturbing on so many levels. dad says it just means she feels comfortable with us.

she actually enters the house and bedrooms quite often without knocking. he just says she's family so it's ok. am i being sensitive because i find it creepy and rude? we know she wasn't raised in a barn, either!

  1. Yeah, I know what you feel. My cousin is also like that. He is a little bit older than me and my sisters, but sometimes, he opens our backyard and come in to pick lemons because we have a lemon tree. I thought we had burglars in our backyard. One time I let the dogs out and he got really scared. =D Payback. heee hee hee

  2. Everybody has different feelings on this. I had family that seen nothing wrong with it but didn't do it to me because they know I did. To me it's rude and takes away your privacy. If someone walked into my room like that they'd probably get something heavy at them with me thinking my house had been broken intro. Something the cousin should think about. Would you be allowed to put a lock of some sort on your door? That would give you some privacy

  3. When we go to bed we lock our doors :)

  4. Bloods thicker than the mud.

  5. You should tell your dad his crazy 'free will'ed' cousin is irritating and unwelcome,  if nothing else;  when that chick comes into your room tell her flat out get out of my room I want to sleep..   If she says anything like your being mean tell her thats nice,  yes I am,  now go think about how mean I am outside my room.

  6. Some people just don't knock. At my boyfriend's house, nobody goes in a room without knocking, but they never ever lock the front door. I feel strange just walking in the front door, but everyone there tells me to.

At my house, nobody closes their doors even when they sleep, and nobody knocks before coming in the room... It's weird now that I have left to college and gotten used to keeping my door closed and don't expect people will just barge in. I have had aunts bust in on me in the bathroom at my own house plenty of times. I don't know what's up with that. They don't think it's weird.

  7. I agree with you on many MANY levels. I could careless if the person was family or not. Its rude and disturbing. If your sleeping of all things how rude is it to just walk into someones room and wake them up because they are bored and want to chat?

My advice would be this... Have a talk with your Dad and let him know how you feel about it and how uncomfortable it makes you. I would then talk with your Dad's cousin and just be plain out honest on how it disturbes you. Your not a child anymore and that you would appreciate it if that person would respect your wishes.

If all else fails.....put a dead bolt on the door.

  8. that is rude. if she knows you guys are asleep she should either not come over or come in quietly. entering anyones room is disrespectul without knocking first. i know if my land lord just came walking into my apartment without calling or knocking first i'd go off

  9. It seems your dad's cousin is a little mentally unbalanced or has no home training, which looks like it runs in your family judging from your father's reaction.  Let them do what they want if they're o.k. with it, but lock your door.

  10. That is indeed rude.  Lock your doors. This woman has an exaggerated sense of entitlement!
