Doesn't the masscre in MO. today at the city council meeting illustrate the need for more open, civil gov't?

Kirkwood, MO is not the only town in the US where citizens either stay home, in revolt, or get frustrated when attempting to talk sense to the "anointed" elected councilmembers, who s***w off for their terms of office, and lie to the electors immediately prior to the election?

What are your experiences with local government?

  1. The guy in Kirkwood was obviously a fruitcake.  But, in fact, the Kirkwood town council had considered banning him from public meetings, but they decided it would not be fair to do so.  Exactly how do you define that as not being open?

My experiences with local government has generated a lot of cynicism, but I'm hardly going to shoot the mayor because of it.

  2. You evidently know nothing about Kirkwood MO, one of the most progressive communities in the nation.  Homes often sell ABOVE the asking price because people want to live there and bid them up, despite the proximity of the troubled Afro-American Meacham Park area, which was the site of another brutal execution of a Kirkwood police officer in 2005 (that shooter was recently condemed to death and appeals were upheld).  The Mayor and the Public Works Commissioner (who was killed in the latest incident) are widely recognized for their commitment and accomplishments.  The Mayor is in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head.

The gunman was a disgruntled person who had been repeatedly cited for multiple violations of city ordinances and who had been repeatedly escorted out of city council meetings by the police after he insulted the council members and disrupted the meetings.  The police had come to expect trouble from him.

  3. Where I reside we have 5 commissioners. If you where to put all 5 of their heads in a large vice you would not be able to squeeze out one brain cell.

People are finally starting to revolt, however killing is not the answer.  There are state ethics, TV consumer investigators

and most important the people must attend council meetings and demand accountability from these hoodlums who are elected to represent us.  DEMAND CHANGE!!

  4. What a stretch! The guy who did this was mentally unbalanced. Proof of that lies in the rambling self-produced brief he presented to the court when he sued the public works director of that town for the construction code violations he received. The mayor he killed wasn't even in office when all of the violations of the city codes occurred.

I am always amazed that, after this sort of tragedy occurs, the only body part which survives is the finger of blame.

  5. No, they need to afford a metal detector at their entrances.
