I can get 2lbs of timothy hay at petsmart for 5 bucks or I can go to a farmer and get about 35lbs for $3.50...whats the difference?!!!!! Are they bad bugs and stuff in horse hay that they cant eat? Some people say its ok. Is it?

  1. in general, horse hay is some of the cleanest hay you can get since horses have very sensitive digestive tracts.  The difference is that a 35 lb bale of hay is a lot more difficult to store properly than a 2 lb plastic bag of hay.  The bale of hay needs to be kept off the ground and in a covered dry area, and people who live in apartments for example often can't provide that.  If you have space for it, I would say get the big bale.

  2. its the same stuff you get in the shops, its fine - where do you think companies who supply the shops get their hay from!  the farms.

  3. yes,i have several breeds.i use this with my lion heads and new zealands.it's ok for them to eat.i have had no problems.what is good for them is pellets with oats.they love this and oatmeal to.i feed them a variety to make sure they have enough protein.timothy hay isn't that high in protein so use other supplements.

  4. WOW thats a great deal!

This says Timothy Hay is fine for rabbits. So I think if you get the same hay from a farmer it should be fine. Think about it, what did rabbits eat when they were wild? I think it should be find.
