  1. Oh no, don't feed Pedigree with it. Pedigree is DREADFUL. No goodness in that food at all, absolutely nothing.

Royal Canin isn't fantastic....but it's a little better than Pedigree.

This website is very handy in determining what foods are good and what foods ar c**p.

Royal Canin breed specific Shih Tzu is a two star food...meaning it's rubbish.

Here is the Pedigree foods, which is a mere 1 star, meaning it's awful.

Here you can find the good food, which is the 4, 5 & 6 star food.

The best food you can buy in the UK is Arden Grange, which comes in both wet canned and dry bagged.

I've tried so many different foods on my two puppies, but I eventually found the absolute BEST thing to feed them: Raw/BARF.

And it is so cheap, really. I have two dogs, weighing 23kgs and 27 kgs, and it costs me approx £45 to feed them BARF, and that lasts THREE MONTHS. Imagine how easy on your pockets it would be to feed a small Shih Tzu BARF, saving you lots of money to pamper him with treats and toys! Oh, and it's also excellent for dogs with sensitive skin or allergies.

Here is some good websites with information on feeding BARF, and doing it correctly.

I order my Raw meat from a company called Landywoods, see if they deliver to your area.

  2. I haven't had any experience with those, but I will tell you...I have had two s**z tsu puppies and they have VERY tender tummies. I have mine 1 year old on Iams dog food Lamb and Rice for stomach and skin allergies. She does VERY well with it. Just be cautious with what you are giving them. If they don't do well on it, then switch to something better on the tummy

  3. Nope, both low quality.

Don't get fooled by "breed specific" foods, it's just a marketing scheme.

I'm not sure what brands are available where you live, but reading the ingredients is a universal way to identify if a dog food is good or not.

Here's what I look for in dog food:

    1) When I chose a dog food, I chose one high meat content. I want to see preferably at least 2-3 out of the top 5 ingredients be meat or meat meal (first ingredient must be!). Meal is simply the meat with the moisture removed.

    2) I want to see higher quality grains, such as barley, brown rice, and oatmeal, instead of seeing wheat and corn. Or an alternative starch/carbohydrate such as potatoes or sweet potatoes.

    3) I don't want to see any byproducts.

    4) I don't want to see a lot of fillers.

    5) I don't want to see preservatives that are believed to be carcinogens (BHA, BHT, ethoxyquin).

    6) I don't want to see artificial colorings such as the Red, Blue, and Yellow dyes.

    7) I don't want to see added sugars (sugar, corn syrup).

    8) I don't want to see mystery meats (meats identified only as "meat" or "poultry".)

  4. I don't know anything speciffic about that brand of food, but my rule for dog food is...

    1. Fits the breed, size, and weight of the dog

    2. Is not purchased at a supermarket, only at a pet store.

    3. Make sure it does not have any toxic foods in it.

  5. I'm not familiar with the s**+-tzu brand but pedigree is decent. My family has a s**+-tzu and we gave her Pedigree canned dog food for the first few years and then switched to Iams small breed. They LOVE the wet dog food but it smells SUPER gross. She's 16 years old now though so we did something right!!
