Dog Problem? Please help? What should we do?!!!?

Whenever my mom and I move, we plan on getting a dog. The kinds of dogs we want are extremely different.

I want a small, lap dog that I can cuddle with and that can sleep in my bed. My mom wants a big, guard dog.

My grandparents have an akita that loves us (me, especially =)) and he can be nice though he's a guard dog.

If my mom and I get two dogs, different sizes, preferably at young ages, do you think they'll get along?

Or should we just get a medium dog that will grow bigger? We both love huskies and if we do this, we said that's the kind of dog we'll get.

and boxers are great gaurd and good with children

  3. I would get one medium-sized dog first. When I first got my puppy, he was a crazy thing and I had to spend a lot of time training him, helping him learn house rules, etc. I also liked having alone time with him so I could bond with him. If you have two puppies together they may just bond with each other and not get used to human contact.

Dogs are also quite expensive. The initial cost of buying the dog is very little compared cost of maintaining the dog, e.g. vet bills, toys, food, training classes, training equipment, grooming equipment, etc. The cost of initial vaccine shots could cost you from $500-$1000 just in the first few months.

Huskies are awesome (I have one) but they are not good guard dogs. They tend to like everyone so if someone new comes over they will be more likely to give them licks rather than barks.

You may consider getting a German Shepard. They are good guard dogs, but at the same time they are very loyal and very trainable.
