ok Im watching my neighbors puppy tomorrow overnight and i want to make her dog treats. This is the Recipe:

1 egg

1/2 cup of cold water

2 1/4 whole wheat flour

1/2 cup not-day dry milk

1 teaspoon each sugar and salt

6 tablespoons of margagin

I did all this correctly and i used the beater to mash it all up but it was way too think and the beater wouldnt go and was making a noise like it was going to blow up or something! so i wanted to thin it out so i added some milk and now instead of crumbly dough, its like a chocolate-chip cookie material dough...will this still bake properly? Is is OK for the puppy to eat?

  1. No and 1 teaspoon of salt is really wrong no matter what.Throw it away get a chicken breast boil it and give little chunks as a treat .Keep unused portions in the fridge the dog will be better off and you don't have to worry about making it sick.Tilks Mom

  2. No salt, no sugar, no dry milk, no margarine.

Replace with another egg and 1/4 to 1/2 cup Natural peanut butter.  add more or less water till you get a dough you can ball up in your hands, squash to 1/4 inch thick and bake.

Save your self a bunch of trouble, give her tiny bits of chicken as a reward for training.  Take her for a walk and play with her.  The treats won't mean much to her.  Like most kids - they would rather play with the cardboard box the toy came in - and you!

  3. no way only a little every once and a great while go to petco and get her some dog treats they have very good stuff but its safe for dogs to eat http://petco.com

  4. Sugar, salt and wheat flour are all not good for dogs!! especially for puppys, that can make him very very sick. Go to the pet shop and get him some healthy biscuits the puppy will love you very much for that, he won't know whether or not you made them yourself, also before you do that make sure that the puppy is not allergic to anything, and make sure the owners are ok with the kind of treat you give him.

Or if you want to make something for him you can make him frozen yogurt, mash up bananas and mix it with some plain yogurt, and you could also add some organic peanut butter.

  5. buy a cookery book in the nearby shop. and youll find it out.

  6. You shouldn't feed a dog wheat, milk, sugar, salt, nor margin.

  7. dont u dare feed that to the dog!!! it may get real sick and die!

  8. I don't know where you saw that this was healthy for a puppy.  It's nothing but JUNK!  I wouldn't even eat this.  NO ...dogs shouldn't have wheat (it causes allergies and itching) or sugar (no good for anyone) or salt (no good for anyone) or margarine (no good for anyone transfats).  About the only thing ok in that is the water.  Oh and the egg is ok too.  Scramble and egg for him and give him that.  And why do people put so many exclamation points after such a nonsensical question?  Don't panic for stupid stuff like this.

  9. What does the recipe call you to do with the cookies? Roll into balls or what?

  10. I just would have bought some dog biscuits.

Unless the puppy is starved, it will adore you for the attention you give it.

Don't try to buy love. It comes naturally.

  11. OH WOW DONT MAKE A COOKIE FOR HER SHE WILL GET VERY SICK AND MAYBE DIE. an egg is ok. but nothing else sugar is horrible too. listen to me i beg you.

  12. Ok, first do not think of putting any type of chocolate anywhere near the dog. Chocolate is like acid to them. It'll definitely dissolve their stomach. Do not do that whatever you do. You might want to slowly decrease each one of those ingreadients by half and take out some of the flour.

    NO margarine at all!!!!!!!!!!

then add different amount of milk to make it more pliable. no sugar stuff at all and no COOKIE DOUGH!!!!!

  13. It depends on how much the puppies/doggies weigh and what their systems can handle.  My boxer almost 90 lbs and I do think this would upset his system...I most likely would have added a pinch more water until you got it to the consistency that you felt comfortable about.  Check out www.thepuppycompany.com for some yummy dog treats and great pet & peoples presents.

  14. making dog treats???  dude, just give the dog a milkbone and call it a night

  15. Wow okay, everyone who has answered so far doesn't know what they're talking about, and they didn't read carefully at all.

The worst this will do to the dog is cause it some gas because of the milk. Milk in a non-dehydrated form is harsh for any animals stomach (besides cows of course)

You could cut out the salt completely if you wanted to, but that little won't hurt him, he gets more than that from a scoop of Dog food, same with all the other ingredients.

Unless this dog has a known wheat allergy, which if he did he'd have very special dog food, and I imagine the owners would have said something to you, this treat should be fine for him.

Margarine generally doesn't have any cholesterol or trans fats of any kind.

I commend you for making your own treats!! That's great!  As for the baking, it should bake fine, but if it's too thick it may just have to stay in the oven a bit longer.

as a side note, chocolate is not like an acid to dogs, it's caffeine content is too high.  Dogs bodies don't know what to do with Caffeine, so it can make them sick and even prove fatal. Not that you said anything at all about chocolate, but I wanted to clarify for the other answerer.
