Question:

Dog Walking and Pet Sitting Business?

Hello, I'm starting a Dog Walking and Pet Sitting business. I have registered as an LLC. I'm working on my contracts and consent forms right now. I want to insure that I do not get sued for any lost or injured dogs. I have a high work ethic and will do everything in my power to insure that the pets are safe, but things happen out of our control sometimes and I want to make sure that I'm covered. Also, if something is reported missing at a home that my company is pet sitting at I want to make sure that we are not blamed for that. Should I also get insurance? I don't know if I can afford that yet.

  1. To save your own assets, please be sure to get insurance! You are starting a business, so general liability insurance, plus errors and omissions insurance, is pretty standard.

Just like you'd hate to lose your home to a flood, similarly, you as a business (or even as an individual) cannot afford to lose everything if anyone sues you.

Don't forget that being sued not only is possible, but also, you'll need to pay court costs, etc if you do get sued. And, as lawsuit-happy as the world is becoming nowadays, you really should not take the risk!

Talk to a couple of insurance brokers - get quotes. You may find it's not all that expensive!

    Good luck,
