  1. Oh, so you want us to tell you how to be a puppy mill?

Do you realize that there are over 150 breeds recognized by the AKC alone?

Can you take care of over 300 dogs appropriately?

I would suggest you start with The AKC.org website, start learning about 1 or 2 breeds now, find a mentor in the breed you are interested in and take it from there!

  2. Reputable breeders are those that breed dogs that will ensure/enhance the greatest qualities of a particular breed.  Each breed has their own set of "standards" and breeding recklessly only causes that breed to weaken.  Just look at all the health issues now in "popular" breeds such as labs and retrievers.

If you want to become a breeder, that is great.  You should be doing so because you so admire the traits of a particular breed and can recognize what pairings of two dogs will have the greatest chance to enhance them.  You should also be prepared to put the health and well-being of the breeding dogs as well as their puppies ahead of your own financial gain.    If you are unable to do every one of these things, you should not consider breeding.

  3. It is not really a job. You don't make money breeding dogs.

People who breed dogs usually only have one breed of dog because one breed of dog is more then enough work, commitment and trouble.

If you plan on getting involved with dogs you must realize its not about the money, it is a commitment to the dogs and to the breed. The purpose of breeding dogs is to better the breed. If  you plan to make money forget it.

I have put more money into vet bills then I can imagine.

  4. Well, read, read, read. Find your breed of choice and live and breathe this breed. You will know every standard, every fault, every health problem possible.

You will find a breed mentor, a reputable breeder breeding the same breed to get you started. You will sell dogs on a spay/neuter contract, you will take any dog back if there is ANY problem to ensure it does not end up in a shelter.

Most importantly, you will understand that breeding is a hobby, intended to better the breed, to preserve the breed, and to improve the breed. It is in no way, shape, or form a way to make money. In fact, you will lose money by breeding.

  5. the people who breed many breeds of dogs are refered to as PUPPY MILLERS - also known as "THE SCUM OF THE EARTH"

this is a guide to becoming a good dog breeder...

you have to specialize in 1 or 2 breeds and breed ONLY because you want to make the breed better!

  6. Volunteer to work at a shelter and make sure you are there on the days the vet visits to put down the dogs that cant be rehomed.

  7. There are enough dogs and puppies about without homes and being treated like shite. Dont add to it.

  8. Well first of all it is a very expensive hobby.  They best way to learn is to get a job as a kennel hand in a GOOD show breeding kennel.  Once you know enough and they see you are serious, they will let you sit in on a birth, and start letting you help as you see what goes on (this will take a year or two for you to gain the needed experience).  You will also learn the characteristics of the breeds as you go.   If you do a good job, you can then apply for jobs in kennels that breed a different breed of dog.  You will need to get a good reference for that.

The first kennels  I helped in were my aunts, she bred boxers. Then I worked in show kennels that bred beagles and chihuahuas, then in kennels that bred and showed GSDs.  Then ones that bred Gordon setters and west highland terriers.  I have also worked in a dog shelter, where strays that were in pup were brought.  Have also helped friends who breed labradors and cairn terriers, And a friend who has Hovawarts. I also worked in (and managed) boarding kennels. I also attended shows and helped show the dogs, and from there decided on which breed of dog I wanted to breed and show.  before I did I studied the history, temerament nad health of that breed.

You will soon find out that you do not want to breed every breed of dog,.  You will find there are certain breeds who do not suit your temperament, and that you will regard as to much work.

Also you will need a sizable property with no near neighbours if you keep a lot of dogs.  The cost of getting kennels built is very expensive.  As is licensing them.  So is paying for staff to help you feed, groom, exercise and clean up after them all.  And there is all the dog poo to get rid of.  You need to pay the local department of health and hygene to do this.  Once you have picked it all up and put it in the proper disposal units you have to buy.

Then there is the cost of registering all the pups, getting them healthchecked, and DNA tested. you also need considerable insurance incase someone you sell a pup to decides to sue you because something goes wrong with their pup.  Plus you have to take back a pup and then rehome it, if a buyer brings it back.

    So I wish you well.

  9. make sure you got the ff.

    1. a large place or a medium one( its better if you live in a farm land)

    2. have cages

    3. have foods.

    4. have 2 kinds or 10 kinds of dogs ( male and female) for basic

    5. then breed them

  10. To be a breeder you have to know the dog breed that you breed inside out. You have to be an EXPERT in that breed. I am sorry but you sound like you want to be a puppy famer and that is not the same as a breeder.
