and not terriors i don't like most of them!

and something that don't bark TOO MUCH i know they got to let some steam off i just don't want it to be Crazy all the time!

i'm on pet finder and going through some breeds but maybe some dog owners can suggest some stuff first hand!

Thanks

  1. Someone recommended Basenjis. And although Basenjis are barkless, they make a wide range of vocalizations from yodels, to baroos, to screams. They can be very quiet or they can be very loud. They are also one of the most destructive breeds on the planet. The Basenji Club of America says the Basenji owners are the only ones on the planet that are competitive about how much destruction Basenjis cause.

  2. You may want to check out the American Kennel Club which will give you some good info.(www.akc.org)

Malamutes can get pretty big -- I had a 120lb Malamute and females are rarely less than 75lbs.

Their close sousin the Siberian Husky is considered medium and averages about 60lbs and 23" at the shoulder.

Boxer, Chow Chow, Standard Schnauzer, Samoyed (related to the Malamute), Keeshond are samples of medium size dogs.  Typically medium is considered between 30 and 50lbs.

  3. I highly recommened a Bernese Mountain Dog. Check them out, they are amazing. They dont bark ( mine only barks if someone rings our doorbell or knocks) they are not high energy, but love walks. And they are gerat compainon dogs. I have one that is a year old, and we are getting another one in a few weeks. If you have kids, even better, they love kids! Good luck

  4. How about a basenji? They rarely, if ever, bark and are a nice size.

Here's a rescue site for them if you want to adopt!

  5. You need to consider energy and exercise requirements, not necessarily size when living in a small area. Many medium sized breeds are very active, herding breeds for example, require a lot of exercise and additional jobs to keep their minds occupied.

An Alaskan Malamute is considered a large breed and also requires a lot of exercise as well as regular grooming to deal with the shedding coat.

Terriers (please note the correct spelling) are very active breeds regardless of the size.

You may find that an adult mixed breed from a shelter is a better choice for your lifestyle and living arrangements. Take a weekend and visit some of the dogs at your local shelter and see what types appeal to you before making a decision.

  6. If possable in your area, you could adopt a "Grey Hound". They are a larger dog than what you are probably wanting but they make great apartment and small home dogs because they are used to being in confined spaces (if the dog used to be a racer). Another good medium sized dog is a Basenji. Here is a web site you can visit for that breed:

I hope you find what you're looking for.
