Question:

Dog going under vinyl fence?

I have a 6 month old golden retriever who goes under one section of my vinyl fence. The rest of the fence is too close to the ground. I bought a 1' fence section and stuck it in the ground, but can't attatch it to the fence. Can I buy dirt and bring the ground up to the fence?

Any Suggestions?

  1. Well, I don't know if this will work for you because your dog is bigger, but when my dog kept going under my fence, I just closed the area off with her leash. Bringing the ground up to  the fence will not help, I've tried  it. Or your dog will just dig through the dirt. Just close the fencing in with brambles, a little string, and thorns. Dogs have sense, so once they see all of that, they won't try to go under the fence any more. Good luck!

  2. my beagle  was digging under our chain link fence. i filled in that area then laid old tree logs and good size rocks along that whole section.

worked like a charm, she lost interest.

  3. That would work as long as your dog isn't digging under the fence.  You can also use decorative stones, brick, along with the dirt too.

  4. Try electric fence wire. It helps a lot! My friends dogs used to dig under her fence all the time, but after she put that wire down by the bottom of the fence it did not happen again.

My dog, however, I taught differently. I do not live right by a highway or anything, so I taught her to stay in her yard. I put her on the leash and walked by our property lines. As soon as she got out I gave her a "no" and when she walked back inside the property line I gave her a treat. (We did not have any fences then) Dogs are very smart, just gotta train them:)

  5. My Amstaff was going under my fence, too.I took pieces of old aluminum poles and drove it into the ground and attached them to the fence. She couldn't push the fence out far enough to get out.The grass grew up and into the fence and I took the poles out...no more escaping
