Dog/ greyhound racing- betting? how does it work?

i have never been before, how does it work?

i have never bet money before, but am going next week to the dogs, and wondered how i put money on, how many races there are, how it all works, what i need to say when placing a bet, how i know if ive won, how i claim my money if i win, all that stuff please help?!!?

Pick a horse/dog you think will win. This is where beginners luck comes in as you will probably pick a name and not look at form :-)

Odds. 10-1 means you will receive 10 times your stake back plus your stake. £10 win at 10-1 gets you £110

If you bet to win your selection has to come first. If you bet each way it can come in 1-2, 1-2-3 or 1-2-3-4th depending upon the race. The details will be on the racecard so don't panic. This costs twice as much. £5 each way costs you £10. f it comes in you will receive a fraction of the odds plus your stake back.

If you win take your slip/voucher back to the cashier or bookmaker you used and they will pay you.

You will get plenty of help if you need it. They are always very friendly at the courses/tracks.
