hey, my dog has a bright red, perfectly round lump on his lip. We got it checked out by the vet and he thinks it might be cancerous, but we don't know for sure. Does anybody have any opinions? He is around 11 years old and an english springer spaniel. He has another vet apointment on wedensday.

  1. Hopefully the vet will do a biopsy on Wed.  We can't give you "opinions" as we don't know what you want our opinion on!

Do you want our opinion on whether it's cancer?

Do you want our opinion on treatment?

Do you want our opinion on putting him down?

What do you want our opinion on?  -!-

  2. Umm, it might not be cancerous - My cat has a lump which comes on her lip, Its called Rodent ulcer. Could be that.

  3. It's impossible to tell if it's cancer or not. If it was possible to know by the description, then your vet wouldn't need to do a biopsy, and you wouldn't need the second opinion.

Basically you need to decide if you want to put your dog through surgery to have the lump removed. If he is healthy otherwise and the vet says he is fine to withstand the effects of anesthesia at his age, then I would have it done. If he isn't in great shape otherwise, I would leave the lump and enjoy his life with you.

  4. good chance it is because he's an older dog. The older they get the chance/risk increases. You need it biopsied. There are also other signs he would have if he has cancer. Do research online.

  5. Only the biopsy can tell you for sure.If it is cancer the vet will have that information when you return. It will need to be removed of course. The only way to handle some thing like this -is one day at a time.Best of Luck to you both.Tilks Mom
