My husband left Thursday,he will be gone for 9 weeks my 4 year old beagle started whimpering on a schedule 12am, 2am, 5am. What can I do to get her to stop. I have tried letting her sleep with me but that just makes it worse.

  1. Does she have to go to the bathroom? If that's not it, then it probably is separation anxiety, so you might just have to live with it.

  2. I give my puppy rah hyde and she just goes to town on that. Try a chewing toy at night..one that's not flavored like white raw hyde (some dogs can't eat it). He will get over it eventually...he's just a little confused. If you focus on it it will get even worse. Your dog feeds of your energy so if you are nervous he might get more nervous. Sometimes the best thing is to not pay that much attention to it ( I know it's hard at night)...keep a bed for him next to yours so he knows he's not alone maybe.

  3. I would say it is separation anxiety. Alot of dogs get it when friends of family, family, of other friendly dogs are gone. Maybe get one of his old tshirts or a blanket, that she can keep with her and when she goes to bed. This sometimes works as it makes them feel safe. I have no idea why so if you hsve any questions, not me.

  4. this may sound harsh

but put her outside for a while..in the garden and lock the door, each time she makes a whimper..

she most likely will focus her energies on trying to get back in and forget ur husband..

  5. Try giving her a dog plushie (a dog toy- one that is safe) to sleep with, having a ticking clock beside her or a radio or TV on to let her know someone is there. You should try these.

    Hope this helps

  6. I have 2 dogs of my own and they suffer from separation issues too, what ever you do, don't let the dog sleep with you, because you will never be able to stop it sleeping in your bed.

What you need to do is keep the dog busy so it doesn't have enough time to think about its other owner, you also need to tier it out so that at night it will sleep all the way through.

I suggest, 2 long walks a day, if you go jogging, take it with you. everything you do make it do with you and more, it makes you sleep better, and also keeps you fit.

hope this has been some help.

  7. Ok the dog expert is here i'm good with dogs, one question did u take it to the vet doctor, and maybe it's sad if it is u should spend lots of time with ur dog teach it tricks and just care it try speaking to the dog treat your dog as a person good luck.

  8. I would crate train her. The crate should only be big enough for her to turn around, this will make her feel safe, but a toy in there that she loves. She may cry for a little while but she will get use to it and love it. Try putting her in their for a few hours during the day to get her use to it, reward her with treats. If she is young she may whimper to go out and pee several times a night, a puppy can only hold it for about 3 to 4 hours.Good Luck!

  9. maybe take something of his (an old shirt you haven't washed etc.).... something that has his scent on it... dog's can smell their owner's scent and it comforts them when they are lonely... that is why kennels ask dog owner's to bring something of theirs for the dog while they leave it... maybe that will work... if nothing else, have him talk to her before bed... i know it sounds stupid, but if you put him on speaker phone and let her listen she will know it's him... hope this helps :)

  10.   She is most likely missing your husband. Try keeping your schedule as normal as possible. Don't give her special attention when she is crying as this is rewarding her behavior.  Give her attention when she is being quiet.  Take her with you when possible.  If this continues for more than a few days I would take her to the vet to rule out anything physical.  If she gets a clean bill of health this should resolve itself.

  11. why not ask your vet?
