Question:

Dog issue. Totally confused?

I have 2 dogs ( a 9 month old pit/boxer mix and an almost 2 yr old JRT). Both are outdoors equal amounts of time but the past week i have noticed my JRT has multiple insect bites (like an ant bite on a human) all over her and my other has none. Could it simply be just ants or flea bites or could it be something else. I'm just confused as to why only she has them on her and my other dog doesn't.They are both on capstar and program pills for fleas as well as recently changing dog food due to food allergies.

  1. Maybe there's a certain part of the yard your JRT prefers where she is getting bit?  A certain bush she likes to lay under....  or an activity she does..  like perhaps if she's a digger, she may have dug up an ant nest.

Its possible this isnt bites also, but an allergic reaction to something.

  2. Sounds like allergies. Talk to your vet to find a treatment that suits your dogs needs.

  3. Maybe the JRT has multi allergies?

  4. I have no idea what an ant bite looks like on a human ...but I will give you my best guess anyway. Since the pit/boxer is still young with sharp little teeth when they play together he could be nipping a little to hard. That would make sense as to why your JRT has marks and the other does not. I would just watch them when they are playing I guess unless you know that isn't it. Good luck with your babes ...

  5. it doesn't sound like bites -

    this sounds like HIVES.

    i would be concerned!

  6. The JRT is no doubt closer to the ground then the pit/boxer mix, he is probably getting bitten my some kind of insect that doesn't like being high off the ground, or can't climb very well. I wouldn't worry about it too much, just make sure they arent' bothering him too much!
