I have wanted a dog for as long as i can remember but my mother will not allow it.

I have explained to her that i will take on the responsibility's and I am a very responsible person i will give up getting a degree for a full time job just so i can have a dog. I do loads of things for my mum and she does appreciate it but still will not allow me, she says if we had a bigger house but i know plenty of people who have small houses and own 2 German Shepard's.

Has anybody been in this situation, did you have to wait to find a place of your own or did you just have to accept they will never let you have a dog. :(

  1. I totally sympathise with you.  I was never allowed a dog when I lived at home or any type of animal for that matter.  I felt it was really unfair.  I am now almost 40 and I have 7 dogs, 5 cats, 2 budgies, goldfish, 2 rabbits and 3 ponies and 5 children.  So I had to wait until I had my own place before I had any pets.  But I definately made up for it when I did.

  2. yes, i am only 12 now, but i had to prove to my parent's i could look after a dog, i got 2 ferret's and a cat and looked after them EXTREMLY well, soon when we moved i got a dog cuz i looked afte rthem well and i proved it. good luck, i know hopw it feel's, i now have a staffie though and i love him too bit's!!!

    :)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

  3. If you are a responsible person, do NOT give up getting a degree just to have a dog. A degree will provide you with the tools for a better life for both you and your future pets.

I had dogs growing up, but couldn't have one during college, so I know how it feels to be without a canine companion when you want one. I knew I couldn't afford a dog, nor did I have time for one. I just waited until after college, I got my own dog as an adult about a year after I got out of college. It was worth the wait.

    .

  4. wait, you can help at a shelter or a vet clinic, even petsmart

  5. Be a volunteer for animals. When you move into your own place make sure it is one that accepts pets. There are many ways to help animals. Don't forget that you can be a foster parent to animals as well as adopting.

  6. yes i have been waiting years.but my mum has let me now.coz i look after my dads dog.and have proven.it i just a case of time.i stoped asking.then my mum said ok.

  7. You have one thing backwards.   DO get a Degree so you can get a good full time job, then your own place, THEN get yourself a Dog.

Good luck from one Dog Lover to another.

  8. Accept you need a place of your own before you will have a dog so get  a good degree which will lead to a great job and loads of cash to buy your home and keep your dogs. You can use the passion you have for dogs to earn money whilst at uni by offering to dog sit whilst people are on holiday. It cost my daughters £300 for kennels because their pet sitters was on holiday at the same time.

  9. It would be foolish to give up getting your degree just so you can have a dog now.  Once you have your degree you will be able to get your own place and provide so much better for a dog.  Wait.. you and your new pup will be so much happier.

  10. Maybe when you move out and have your own house you can get one. But for now, act like your lonely and such. Try to make enough money so you can pay for everything. I have a dog right now, so no.

  11. If you were a responsible person, you WOULD NOT give up getting a degree just to have a dog! I understand that you want a dog very badly, but in doing that, you are just making it harder on yourself! Without a degree, how are you going to pay for vet bills, food, shots, treats, toys? All of the things that make dogs happy and that they need to live? Get yourself a degree and then get a dog. It will be worth the wait!

  12. Why not see if she will let you foster a dog, on a short term basis to see how things go first? Or sign up as a dog walker at your local animal shelter?

  13. I feel for you I really do, my mother wouldnt let me have a dog when i was growing up so i did something a little devious ;). I talked my granny into getting a dog lol... didnt quite work out as i expected as the dog obviously was hers and not mine so wouldnt reccomend that one. I waited and got myself the most beautiful akita and she was well worth the wait a real member of our family!

  14. Yes just wait till you move out. If your mum is stubborn she will never give in.

  15. MAN THAT WAS ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
