I have been breeding dogs ( boxers and shih tuz's) off and on for the past 20 years I dont remember ever having a female go past her whelp date. My boxer was due to whelp yesterday and still no sign her temp is running around 99 any advise, called vet was told not to worry. But I am a natural worrier.

  1. Its possible she didnt conceive for up to 4 days after the last breeding. And the whole 63 days thing is usually from conception. So chances are you are still ok, as long as she isnt acting distressed I would continue to monitor. If it makes you feel better, just call the vet and say you would like to bring her in for just a very quick once over to lay your mind at rest. But as long as she hasnt pushed and isnt stressing I would try not to worry too much, i can appreciate that is easier said than done.  Good Luck!

  2. I have a hard time believeing you've been breeding for 20 years and don't know the answer to this.

I sure hope it's not your rescue boxer with demodex that you're breeding......

  3. Okay you don't know if dog is in heat, how often, or what to do, or you think your dog is pregnant or you want to breed, etc. etc. etc. ?

If you are asking this question you MUST read up and have material on hand and if your dog gives birth.

This book is a good one.

There is also a breeding for dummies book that is basic and decent also on my site. Take a look at the books, some of the sites that compare like amazon have a review also.

YOU NEED to get educated and FAST as pregnancies are only 63 days and it GOES fast.Build a list of three books and go pick them up locally or order from my site which whatever.

Just get some material to have on hand! Find a mentor in real life someone that has gone through this before.

  4. If your vet told you not to worry then i wouldnt worry..but if you cant help it you can always bring her to see the vet to ease your mind..

  5. To be honest, I don't believe that you've been breeding for 20+ years. Had you of actually been doing this, you would have gained a mentor by now and wouldn't need to ask this question.

It also strikes me as strange that you use the terms "off and on" with breeding, as it does that you breed two COMPLETELY different breeds under the same roof.

A dog going over or under is not uncommon, and you, as a breeder, should know this.

Advice is spelled with a C, just so you know.
