  1. It's mucus - shouldn't be there, means his bowels are upset, might have a touch of colitis. Might be down to his food that his disagreeing with his digestive system. Best advice is to take him to the vet, get your dog checked out and see what the vet advises.

  2. Sometimes dogs can pass something that looks like slime or mucus. Some people think this is the dogs intestines as it looks encased.  It is not.  Usually if the dog is not on a monthly wormer this can be a case of parasites causing an upset in the dogs system.  Sometimes it's completely normal and nothing to worry about.  If there is blood in the stool then indeed they have picked up a parasite or eaten something that has caused the bowel to bleed.  Either way on that one the vet needs to be contacted and your dog examined.  If you are concerned call your vet and ask him if your dog needs an exam..

  3. Its a scent marking thing. Its how their ancestors used to track each other in the wild. Dogs have anal glands that secrete this mucus when they poo.

If he starts scooting round the floor on his bum you'll need to get the glands drained at the vets because they can get blocked sometimes especially in smaller breeds.

  4. The digestive system sometimes makes excess mucus. This mucus is what you are seeing. If you notice blood with the mucus it is a sign something is irritating the digestive system and the dog should be seen by a vet.

  5. It can sometimes be a bit like an 'irritable bowel' thing and you might find that the mucus covers the poo like a sausage skin.

Take your dog to the vet and have a word with him/her.  It could just be a dietary thing (especially if you've changed his feeding recently) or it could be something that needs more investigation.

Be on the safe side and speak to your vet.  Don't be embarrassed (they'll have heard it before) and give them all the information that you've mentioned here.
