Question

Okay I don't know much about dogs but my Mom said I could get a dog but I need to know more about them, I want a beagle, any info on beagles, also any info on smaller dogs would be helpful!

Beagles are a LOT of work. I had one (Beatrice) and my husband&#039;s parents have one. (Tracker.) They are stubborn, very hard to train, and rambunctious with a tendency to misbehave. But they are very sweet and extremely intelligent-(the intelligence is the problem- they are too smart for their own good.)  so lovable with everyone, and they ADORE babies and children. I&#039;ve never seen a vicious Beagle.  They have SO much personality, and they are absolutely hilarious. They stay playful and puppylike and silly until old age, which I love. But be warned: they also love to run away and chase things, bark, howl, whine, and chew. They are very very high-energy dogs that need a lot of exercise, and if they don&#039;t get it they are more likely to misbehave or be destructive out of frustration.

If you&#039;re getting a Beagle, be SURE to get obedience classes, and early when your dog is very young.

As I said, Beagles can be awesome, but only when they are trained very well.

It depends what you want.  A beagle is a nice dog that is low maintenance.  You may also want to look at a pug.  The problem with a pug is that they shed alot, but you will never have such a nicely tempered dog.  If shedding is an issue consider a bousant freese.

If you live in Antioch California or anywhere near there. My friend has to gove her year old potty trained dog away because shes a babysitter and one of the 7 year old fell on him and the dog got scared and kinda bit his nose. Hes a very sweet dog!

If you like a beagle, then theyre pretty good dogs, but our family friends have one, and it howls a lot at night especially. A really good small dog is a miniature pinscher. Ive had one for six years, and she is absolutly perfect! they are very smart and learn very fast. They are sweet around everyone, even strangers. and very tolerant around kids. you should look up some stuff about them, or think about getting one, theyre great!

Dogs natrually come from a pack.

They walk all day- and eat when they get food.

To prevent tons of behavior problems like some types of barking and jumping- take your dogs on a walk 30 minuets a day.

When your dog does something you dont like- you MUST correct the problem right as he is doing it. You can&#039;t punish a dog- thats a human thing.

Don&#039;t baby talk to your dog- that will just tell him your not the boss.

You have to show him your the boss- treat him as if your the higher rank- and hes the lower rank,

Some people think thats cruel, but its the way dogs are. If you arent the boss he will become the boss.

Do not give affection untill after you have gave disipline. Or if hes is sitting or laying down and calm- you can give him affection.

When they bark you tell them no- if it gets out of hand- get a bark collar- it corrects them when they bark.

check out petfinder.com and type in your town or try to get one from a local shelter- they really need homes- a lot of time they are full bred dogs like a beagle.  They take love and care and they give you back much more love than humans could ever give them.  Dogs are wonderful.  Make sure you read about the breed online you are interested in.  It&#039;s a forever friend.
