Dog spaying problems?

Hi just wondered if anyone could give me some advice or help me out. My dog (female) got spaded on Tuesday we took her back to the vet on Thursday to get her checked out the vet said she might of had a bit of an infection as she licked her incision so the vet gave antibiotics. She was also getting stressed so the vet gave her dizapan. She also has painkillers which she had on Tuesday. But she seems unwell she keeps shivering, panting, feels hot and moving about fast looks like shes trying to get comfortable. Just wondered if this was normal or if there is anything I could do. Thanks

  1. She sounds pretty ill. All the symptoms you described are symptoms of pain. You may want to consider a second recheck appointment with her vet or another vet.

I would definitely finish the antibiotics and don't give her the diazepam unless absolutely necessary. Some clinics use diazepam in conjunction with Ketamine to induce anesthesia, so naturally it's going to make her very sleepy.

Keep up on the painkillers too - request more if you run out.

If you have an old thermometer you're willing to sacrifice, I'd recommend taking a rectal temperature on her. Normal temps for dogs is 99.5 - 102.5 degrees fahrenheit. If her temp is higher than 102.5, take her to a vet immediately.

It's very rare but it has been reported that the subcutaneous sutures can be aggravated loose by l*****g, etc, causing the abdominal contents to 'fall' downwards. If this happened, you would be able to see a lot of 'bulging' from her abdomen.

    Hope this helps.

  2. um... well i would say take ur back to the vet! i'm not sure if its normal but u should take it to the vet and decribe whats happening... good luck!

  3. She may be having an allergic reaction to one of the medications.

She may be having problems with her infection and not responding to the antibiotic she was given. -!-

  4. It sounds infected. You should try a different vet and see what they think. Do hurry, infections can kill.

  5. call your vet, she may be having a reaction to one of the medications.

  6. what antibiotic did he give u?

  7. When my dog had complications with the surgery the vet said he had to stay overnight for awhile. I think the doctor should have told you that, it's the best thing to do. Even if you have to pay for it, I would suggest you talking to the doctor about letting the dog stay with them for awhile till he/she gets better. This is why I don't ever spay my dogs, it's just easier to keep an eye out on them and dont' let them run outside without someone watching them.
