Question:

Dog sprained foot and it STILL limping-any ideas??

My dog started limping very bad-so I took her to the vet. They did x-rays and said it is not broken, but that she sprained her foot. They gave me pain pills to give her, but they didn't wrap her foot or anything else .

She's a puppy, and I've tried to keep her inside the majority of the day/night to limit activity...but I of course have to let her outside...and she's a puppy so she runs around; she will still run on it which is weird. She is still limping quite a bit... I'm wondering if there are any other suggestions that I can do at home.

I hate seeing her in pain but I don't know what to do. Does it just take a good while to heal like if I sprain my ankle???

Thanks for any ideas!!

  1. My 5 month old puppy did the same thing.  I took it to the Vet who said the problem was in the foot (no X-rays).  I have been giving him anti-inflammatory pills for 4 days (they run out today).

He is the same, if he runs he will use his foot but apart from that he was holding his foot up when he walked.  Now he will put it down a bit when he walks.

I am giving him till Tuesday to see some definite improvement and if not, back to the Vet we go.

    Good luck.

  2. Get another X ray- My vet ( I have since changed) missed not one but 2 small fractures-and the dog was already healing wrong.  Too late now.  Limp for the rest of her life.
