Dog swallowed jagged plastic?

So this morning when I came home my mom said my dog was gagging last night when she came over to take him out. She said it lasted a few minutes then he was fine.

I go over to his bed to see him and start picking up some of his toys, and I notice one of his plastic toys is broken. It was a plastic like big bone that had little raised areas that were heart shaped. One of the hart shaped pieces was laying beside his bed. When I held it to the hole in the side of the bone, there is another small piece missing.

He's acting normal today. Playing, etc. and Passed a normal stool this morning when I took him out.

Do I need to be headed to the vet w/ him?

  1. Take him to the vet, just in case! It can't hurt! And a tip for next time you're buying his toys, stick to things that can't be chewed up, and potentially cause harm. Soft materials would be better, or raw hide bones.

    =]

  2. take to vet

  3. Just make sure he poops it out, lol.

If he doesn't after a long time, then take him to the vet.

  4. call the vet & see what advice they offer. his stool may have already been lower in his system & this one was ok. if the plastic lodged & caused a blockage or even worse a tear in his intestines...he isnt out of danger yet. if he starts vomiting or not going to the bathroom...take him the an er vet asap. id call the vet to be sure either way. you want peace of mind & you dont want the pet in pain

  5. no need for a vet but put laxatives in his dinner to be sure

  6. if the piece was small enought to swallow he should be fine. It might have gotten stuck in his throught (hence the gagging.) but if he is acting fine now it should be no worries. As long as their was no redness in the stool and no coughing blood, ure best friend should b fine.

  7. no dogs eat weird things just keep an eye on him for the next 2 days to make sure he is acting normal, eating, drinking, normal stool and all.

  8. i dont want to worry you or make things appear like they might be good but i would definatly keep an eye on him and his stool.

If he doesnt seem to be going number 2 on a regualr basis with in the next few hours to a day or there is blood in either his stool or urine id say be safe and take him.

    OR

Play it extra safe and take him anyways. there is no harm in it and it could save his life. if it gets caught before it passes the stomach id say that it would be ccheaper for them to fix and you never know they might  have something to make it safe for him to pass.

I am in no way an expert so dont take the thinks i say as fact tho. just my 2 cents
