Question:

Dog trainer certification/degree?

I've always wondered what I would have to do to become a legitimate/certified dog trainer. Correct me if I'm wrong but it doesn't seem like something you'd go to college for.

For example, if I wanted to work at PetsMart as a dog trainer, would they hire me if I wasn't certified (if there is such a thing)?

  1. I believe with the right knowledge and experience, you could learn and be confident training dogs. You could even go in business for yourself with advertising and make more money if that's what you really want to do. If you would, take a look at this website and I believe you will discover some really good info. Good Luck and Happy Training.    http://bryanrainespetservices.com/Dog_Tr...

  2. There are plenty of training programs that you can find online that work well, but if you want to work at PetSmart as a trainer you have to go through their program. It's a two week course that covers all the bases on tricks, house training, and obedience. While it's better to have some experience when applying, if they like you at the interview then they should be more than willing to hire you! I would suggest that you apply as a trainer but also put down an alternate job option. That way if they're aren't hiring for trainers at the time, you'll have a better chance when a position opens up!

If you're looking at other companies, most of them are the same way too. They have their own programs, and most of them will train you without experience if they like you.

    Good Luck!!
